Boulder Ice Cream

Late night ice cream stop
1111 13th Street
(at College)
Boulder, CO 80302
United States
In Boulder it is always a good time for ice cream. That is why this small hole-in-the-wall scoop shop keeps the doors open well into the night. The cones are cheap and the ice cream, which comes in an array of creative flavors, is homemade on-site. You can actually watch the transformation of sugar and cream into a tasty chocolate chip or raspberry cheesecake flavor. The location on the Hill draws all sorts of characters, from hungry hippies to college professors to wandering tourists, making for an interesting wait in line.

Fox Theatre and Cafe

Music central

Describing Boulder's music scene requires two words: Fox Theatre. The intimate hall, located on The Hill, feels more like a gathering place, rather than a concert hall. It has the same feel of drinking beer in your friend's big garage, except that this place holds over 400 people, has precise acoustics, and draws some of the biggest names in music. Bands like 311 and Counting Crows, who easily sell out larger venues in Denver, always opt to stop by the Fox, drawn by the wild fans and the small town ambiance.

Maywah

Fast, sit-down Chinese fare
2500 Baseline Road
Boulder, CO 80302
United States
+1 303 499 8225
This restaurant serves up Chinese and Vietnamese food in a cozy, Asian-themed atmosphere. Enjoy ample portions of all the standards at a reasonable price. Friendly and efficient service makes this establishment an ideal stop for a business lunch or dinner. The place has a devoted following and can be crowded, especially at lunchtime. Try the tasty Hot and Sour Soup or the moderately spicy Thai Curry Chicken over steamed rice. While the Vietnamese menu is short, the offerings are excellent. Watch out for the deep fried items, however, for they tend to be greasy.

Sink

Great tasting pizza, fun atmosphere
1165 13th Street
Boulder, CO 80302
United States
+1 303 444 7465
http://www.thesink.com
This funky pizza joint on University Hill serves the best pizza in town. There is a long-standing rumor that Robert Redford worked as a janitor here during his short stint at CU. The pizzeria stays open late, making it popular with the college crowd. Pizza comes in three crust choices based on density. Saving the crust and then dipping it in honey at the end of the meal is a tradition here. Burgers and Mexican fare round out the menu.

Tsing Tao Chinese Restaurant

Top-notch Chinese fare
607 South Broadway Street, Suite A
Boulder, CO 80305
United States
+1 303 494 6228
At first glance, Tsing Tao, with its standard Chinese restaurant pink napkin look, appears unexceptional. Until, that is, one scans the menu and recognizes what sets this restaurant apart. The menu has a wonderful selection of chef specialty items like Sea Bass Steak with a black bean sauce ($12.95), and tear-inducing Volcano Shrimp ($10.95). If you prefer familiar Chinese items like curry chicken, beef chow mein or wonton soup, they are all available and reasonably priced. Daily lunch specials, all for under $5.50, make this restaurant very popular with both the business and shopping crowds.
