Music, film & history |
2032 14th St Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 786 7030 http://www.bouldertheater.com |
This posh venue has graced downtown Boulder since 1906. Originally opened as an opera house, the historic building underwent a massive renovation in the 1980s. Located just off the Pearl Street Mall, the complex hosts nightly concerts, film screenings and other community events. National Public Radio hosts the popular weekly environmental and musical radio show E-Town here. While it remains a popular venue for local entertainers, the theater's cabaret-style seating, preserved art deco ornamentation and state-of-the art sound and lighting system attract national and international artists. Authentic Boulder |
2115 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 443 0486 |
Hidden beneath the historic Hotel Boulderado, this cavernous maze of low-lit rooms serves as a Mecca for local and regional blues and rock acts. The classy, yet renegade-like atmosphere draws a range of people, from seasoned music veterans, to yuppies and bohemians. But whatever the flavor, the bar promises an authentic taste of Boulder and an entertaining evening. Sit back and enjoy a famous Boulder microbrew or even a cigarette, this is one of the few Boulder establishments where you can enjoy a smoke. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Funky local's hangout |
2922 Baseline Road Boulder, CO 80303 United States +1 303 442 8162 |
Since 1975, this landmark has been serving Boulder. The dining room boasts over 1000 pieces of movie memorabilia, a satellite dish, televisions and big screens, and pool tables and video games. The crowd is a mix of college students and motorcycle enthusiasts, but do not be afraid to bring the kids along. The menu features burgers and sandwiches along with specialties like the Burrito Grande and Fish and Chips. Live music rocks the bar on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bar with multiple personalities |
1109 Walnut Street (at 11th Street) Boulder, CO 80304 United States +1 303 447 1803 |
Mixing multiple trends under one roof makes for an interesting crowd at the Foundry. Part coffeehouse/café, part upscale pool hall, part nightclub, part cigar/scotch bar, the place has a number of identities that attracts everyone. Twelve regulation mahogany pool tables, rented by the hour, satisfy the town's love of billiards. The upstairs is the place to get intimate, although live music occasionally drowns out all conversation. The café serves pastries with a wide selection of designer coffees, as well as gourmet sandwiches and a menu of basic bar fare. Head up to the roof deck to enjoy a warm summer afternoon with killer views. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Music central |
1135 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 447 0095 http://www.foxtheater.com |
Describing Boulder's music scene requires two words: Fox Theatre. The intimate hall, located on The Hill, feels more like a gathering place, rather than a concert hall. It has the same feel of drinking beer in your friend's big garage, except that this place holds over 400 people, has precise acoustics, and draws some of the biggest names in music. Bands like 311 and Counting Crows, who easily sell out larger venues in Denver, always opt to stop by the Fox, drawn by the wild fans and the small town ambiance. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Care-free and casual |
1535 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 546 0886 |
This loose and carefree place harbors a heavy 1960s slant and features Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead paraphernalia on the walls and the staff looks as if they attended a few Dead shows during their time. But even if you are not into that music or style, the menu is still worth checking out. Salads, sandwiches, and a huge offering of burger choices are available including the Black and Blue Burger, which features blackened seasoning with blue cheese. Nine home-brewed beers are offered on tap. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A bit of old Boulder fun lies tucked away on the Pearl Street Mall at this popular gathering spot. This lively pub and cellar is the perfect place for a conversation over a game of pool or darts. The bar is bouncing with energy, and the regulars prefer it that way. Live music rocks the joint every Wednesday night. The menu features traditional pub fare, including burgers, bratwurst and mozzarella sticks. Outdoor seating is available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Nederland standard |
15 East First Street Boulder, CO 80466 United States +1 303 258 7733 |
Do not let the brown, unmarked door fool you. Inside, this old Nederland watering hole is a rare view of mountain history and culture served with some delicious American and Mexican food. Known in town as the PI, it is worth a visit if just to view the rustic decor of wagon wheels, horse saddles and cowboy paraphernalia. On weekends live music booms about the dining room. Non-smoking and smoking sections are available. No children at the bar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bring the quarters |
1310 College Avenue Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 447 0555 |
This popular place is a classic example of what you see is what you get. Fourteen pool tables dominate the floor, which makes Wednesday's Tournament Night very popular, especially with pitchers of Coors beer. Two dart boards, foosball and a selection of arcade games make it imperative to load the pockets with quarters before entering. The daily lunch special of pizza, 30 minutes of pool and a soda is a nice alternative from the usual noon break. There is never a cover charge. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Techno Not Allowed |
1915 Broadway Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 938 8600 |
Some of the best DJs in the world wait with baited breath to play their music at this top-notch dance club. SOMA opened in 1998, and has since then been one of the hottest and wildest spots in town. Wednesday through Saturday, the club is packed with gorgeous dancers, but the groove changes each night. The DJs play deep house on Thursday and funky breaks on Saturday. Techno is strictly not allowed! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great tasting pizza, fun atmosphere |
1165 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 444 7465 http://www.thesink.com |
This funky pizza joint on University Hill serves the best pizza in town. There is a long-standing rumor that Robert Redford worked as a janitor here during his short stint at CU. The pizzeria stays open late, making it popular with the college crowd. Pizza comes in three crust choices based on density. Saving the crust and then dipping it in honey at the end of the meal is a tradition here. Burgers and Mexican fare round out the menu. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Locals' pool hall and saloon |
1136 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 449 4987 |
This Pearl Street Mall hangout brims with locals. Do not let the entrance turn you away. While a dark stairwell leads to this underground hideaway, the inside is friendly and fun with six pool tables and a big screen television. The bar pours a variety of beverages including an assortment of local micro brews. This is one of the few places in town you can get away with having a cigarette. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Music and wine |
2017 13th Street Boulder, CO 80302 United States +1 303 473 9463 http://www.trilogywinebar.com |
For two years in a row, this human-hive of a wine bar has been recognized by the local press as the best in Boulder. Owned and managed by triplet sisters (do not shake your head thinking you have drank too much when you first see them), they have created a wine bar atmosphere that is high on fun and low on pretensions. The wine menu offers over 200 vintages, including several from Africa, while stuffed eggplant and Colorado lamb highlight the dinner offerings. Live music, including bluegrass on Tuesdays, plays every night except Monday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A comfortable rooftop patio makes this bar one of the city's most memorable places to relax and watch the sun set behind Boulder's picturesque Flatirons—the dramatic sandstone rock slabs that represent the beginnings of the Rocky Mountains. Located one block west of the Pearl Street Mall this popular tavern features an array of Mexican dishes, burgers, wings and other American bar fare. Wednesday night features live jazz 9p-midnight.
