Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1NB

This restaurant is situated right on the beach next to The "Doughnut". It has a wonderful decked dining area outside—a perfect place to sip coffee to the sound of the waves washing over the pebbles. Open all day for drinks or food, The Boardwalk has a range of cocktails, shakes and alcoholic drinks. The menu is tempting, featuring Moules Marinieres and home made burgers along with organic meat dishes, salads and a good old English breakfast. The prices are reasonable and the location makes it hard to top.

Chilli Club

Getting spicy by the sea
183 Kings Road Arches
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1NB
United Kingdom
+44 1273 73 9530
This small trendy restaurant provides a variety of foods in a clean modern setting. A varied menu offers delicious breakfasts until noon. Try Home-Made Muesli, Smoked Salmon and Ricotta Ciabatta or Grilled Plum Tomato Bruscetta with Haloumi Cheesse. Main courses have a chilli related theme and there's several different curries and stir fries. Wines are available by the bottle, and there's a good choice of beers and soft drinks to cool that chilli burn.

Circus Circus

Preston Circus

The Thai Café @ Circus Circus has undergone a dramatic transformation. What once was a dark, airless pub is now a bright, breezy eaterie just across the street from the Duke of York's Cinema. Popular with office workers at lunchtime and early evening; the crowd is mixed later on. An extensive menu, including Thai cuisine is on offer from breakfasts and baguettes to full meals. This is quality cuisine at very reasonable prices. Desserts are home-made and Chunky Paprika Fries are quite wonderful.

The bar and lovely outdoor courtyard area are also popular with the twenties/thirties crowd. Food is delicious. Who could resist fresh mussels with newly baked bread, home-made smoked salmon and dill fishcakes, and delicious puds (£7.95-£12.95)?

Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1UN
United Kingdom

With strong connections to the renowned English's Oyster Bar and Seafood Restaurant and a position next to the premier performing arts centre Komedia, Curve has some impressive friends. Beautifully styled, Curve has a great location for a coffee in the afternoon or a full meal in the evening. Starters like the local organic mushrooms in puff pastry with a white wine and cream sauce are a treat. Main courses like roast crispy duck, venison sausages and mediterranean vegetable wellington are just a small selection of what is on offer. In summer the whole front opens up to let you watch all the people go by.

United Kingdom

Set at the edge of a quaint square in The Lanes, this could well be a contender for the best Brighton restaurant. If a full blown gourmet meal is not your preferred choice, the small but stylish oyster bar, annexed to the restaurant, has space at the counter for about six diners. The menu is rather traditional with Dover sole, Grilled Tuna and lobster high on the list. The quality is excellent and the service attentive, making the whole dining experience a real joy.

Havana

Out of Africa
32 Duke Street
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1AG
United Kingdom
+44 1273 77 3388
Stunningly stylish, Havana attracts a well dressed crowd of diners. Incredibly clean, cream decor with dark wood and beautifully set tables, this restaurant is not for those who want fast food. The front serves as a cafe bar during the day and a cocktail lounge at night. Breakfasts have recently been added to the menu and there are several lovingly prepared lunches on offer. An enticing cafe style menu is a little less pricey. Dinner is a bit more expensive, but worth it for great, contemporary cuisine in stunning surroundings.

Lucy's Restaurant

Dine with a view
26-28 Kings Road Arches
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 2LN
United Kingdom
+44 1273 22 0222
This intimate little restaurant is located under one of the King's Road Arches right down on the seafront, next to the West Pier and brand new paddling pool and play area. They are open all day and evening serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is beautifully presented and dishes such as Thai Crab Cakes with spaghetti mouli or Marrakesh Griddled Chicken with saffron rice taste as good as they sound. There is a children's menu, highchairs and a selection of organic babyfood in jars for those fussier eaters.

Situated across the road from the West Pier, The Regency is a busy place from morning until night and is a favourite haunt of all sorts of locals—celebrities included. The menu includes very good value meals served in pleasant, but basic, surroundings with or without a sea view. The menu is varied, but fish is the main food here. Main meals range from GBP6.95 to GBP16.95. The fish is simply cooked to preserve its natural flavour, and the service is quick! The seafood platters are especially good.

Richard's

Bold, beautiful brasserie
102-106 Western Road
Hove
Brighton, East Sussex BN3 1FA
United Kingdom
+44 1273 72 0058
Large and lively, Richards is situated on the Hove border. Not the best of views, but to be seated outside on a warm day is relaxing, especially if there's food involved. If dining indoors, sunny yellow walls are cheery and bright. The service here is excellent and staff most helpful. Sunday breakfasts are a treat, being so well presented (and always with a smile). Be sure to arrive before 11am as crowds do gather. A daytime menu is available until 6pm including pasta, salads, main courses, desserts, ices and cakes. There's a good selection of drinks and also cocktails at reasonable prices.

Steamers Restaurant and Bar

Best view in town
106 Kings Road (by Metropole Hotel)
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 2FU
United Kingdom
+44 1273 77 5775
Steamers draws a mixture of both residents and visitors to its New Orleans-look venue. It's not quite wild enough to rival some of the bars under the King's Road Arches, but the frequent performances of live bands and bright breezy atmosphere all add to its charm. The large terrace at the front of Steamers is the perfect vantage point on sunny days to watch the waves roll in, hip Brightonians meander by and enjoy a pint or two of cool crisp beer. The food is a bit hit and miss: if burgers and chips, generous sandwiches, and scampi are dishes akin to paradise for you.

Wok Wok

Minimalist Asian restaurant
34 Duke St
The Lanes
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1AG
United Kingdom
+44 1273 326823
Modern canteen Wok Wok is fairly new in Brighton, providing a vast range of Asian cuisines. Branches in London are already proving a huge success. Stylish but minimalist decor gives a modern look. Open kitchens are the focal point of the restaurant which boasts healthy meals, due to wok style cooking. Order either Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese or Malaysian cuisine for an authentic meal - the pad thai and rare beef salad are recommended. Most main meals won't cost more than £8 per person and there's plenty to choose from. They also provide a children's menu with activity book and free face painting on a Sunday lunchtime.
