Preston Circus Circus |
2 Preston Road Preston Circus Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4QF United Kingdom +44 1273 620026 http://www.circus-circus.co.uk |
The Thai Café @ Circus Circus has undergone a dramatic transformation. What once was a dark, airless pub is now a bright, breezy eaterie just across the street from the Duke of York's Cinema. Popular with office workers at lunchtime and early evening; the crowd is mixed later on. An extensive menu, including Thai cuisine is on offer from breakfasts and baguettes to full meals. This is quality cuisine at very reasonable prices. Desserts are home-made and Chunky Paprika Fries are quite wonderful. Review © 2007, Wcities |

28 Sydney Street Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4EP United Kingdom +44 1273 60 2526 |
If you want to grab some breakfast with Brighton locals, then this might be the place for you. It looks like it was designed by a new age hippie straight out of art college, and in fact it probably was. Staff and customers are friendly and relaxed. Full breakfasts, sandwiches, salads, pies and all manner of filling fodder will have you pushing your plate away in satisfied surrender. There is equal choice and value for vegetarians too. If you're not hungry, then grab a tea, creamy hot chocolate or generous "mugachino" and take a seat out on the pavement and let Brighton bustle by. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Have a laugh on us |
2-3 Pavilion Buildings Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1EE United Kingdom +44 1273 73 7080 http://www.hahaonline.co.uk |
This is one of this writer's favourite bars in Brighton. It is a spacious, airy and modern new eatery in a prime location next to the Royal Pavilion grounds. Seating is comfortable and there newspapers strewn around for customers perusal. There is a great brunch menu and a full breakfast will cost you £5. If you just fancy a drink, there is a good range of coffees and teas and a well stocked bar. The main menu has a slight mediterranean leaning. Starters include crostini and bruschetta. Mains start from £6, try roasted chicken breast with chargrilled polenta. You can also buy oils, chutneys and nuts to re-create the Ha! Ha! experience at home. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Out of Africa |
32 Duke Street Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1AG United Kingdom +44 1273 77 3388 |
Stunningly stylish, Havana attracts a well dressed crowd of diners. Incredibly clean, cream decor with dark wood and beautifully set tables, this restaurant is not for those who want fast food. The front serves as a cafe bar during the day and a cocktail lounge at night. Breakfasts have recently been added to the menu and there are several lovingly prepared lunches on offer. An enticing cafe style menu is a little less pricey. Dinner is a bit more expensive, but worth it for great, contemporary cuisine in stunning surroundings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Provincial cafe |
164 Church Road Hove Brighton, East Sussex BN3 2DL United Kingdom +44 1273 32 7329 |
Mangerie offers everything from simple jacket potatoes at lunch to Modern British favourites, often with an ethnic edge, in the evening. The small rustic cafe, with its yellow and green colour scheme, has a relaxed feel to it and paintings by local artists adorn the walls. The evening menu offers appetisers such as smoked salmon and dill sauce or a warm goats cheese salad. Try the duck in plum sauce for a special treat. For a delicious and unusual dessert, deep fried ice cream is a cool surprise. Bring your own alcoholic beverages and a corkage charge will not apply. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sea, sun and sandwiches |
Kings Rd. Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1NA United Kingdom +44 1273 738391 |
The Meeting Place is an open air cafe that is perfect for a drink or bite to eat after a seafront stroll, so it's no surprise that it is frequented by many visitors and residents of the town. All food and drink is reasonably priced: choose from tea, coffee, hot chocolate with whipped cream, snacks, ices and a delicious selection of homemade cakes. Although the cafe is quite roomy, expect crowds, especially on a Sunday when local people meet up for a coffee and a chat. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fabulous fry-ups |
40 Western Road Hove Brighton, East Sussex BN3 1JD United Kingdom +44 1273 20 2828 |
This two-floor cafe is your typical "greasy spoon". However, Naff Caff is extremely popular with locals, students and anyone requiring nourishment after a heavy night of partying. Breakfasts are the most popular and if venturing to the cafe on a weekend morning, be sure to arrive at a reasonable time - after 11am, it gets really crowded. A massive morning feast complete with fried potatoes, bubble and squeak, mushrooms, egg, sausage, bacon, toast and tea/coffee is around a fiver. A vegetarian version is also on offer. Lunches and light snacks are also available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A pub with a view |
80 East Street The Lanes Brighton BN1 1NF United Kingdom +44 (0)1273 74 8077 / +44 (0)1273 74 8103 |
Set near Brighton Pier, the Prodigal attracts a mixed crowd, although the older generation is far outnumbered by the young Brightonian student and professional gang. Gone are the traditional British pub features such as dull multi-coloured carpets and dark wood-paneled walls have been replaced by light wooden floors and light features. A further bonus is that decent wines are available alongside the selection of popular draft beers. A glass of wine is about GBP3, but then the measures are rather generous. The menu is more restaurant than bar snacks, and offers a great brunch on weekends. What better way to round up the week? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bold, beautiful brasserie |
102-106 Western Road Hove Brighton, East Sussex BN3 1FA United Kingdom +44 1273 72 0058 |
Large and lively, Richards is situated on the Hove border. Not the best of views, but to be seated outside on a warm day is relaxing, especially if there's food involved. If dining indoors, sunny yellow walls are cheery and bright. The service here is excellent and staff most helpful. Sunday breakfasts are a treat, being so well presented (and always with a smile). Be sure to arrive before 11am as crowds do gather. A daytime menu is available until 6pm including pasta, salads, main courses, desserts, ices and cakes. There's a good selection of drinks and also cocktails at reasonable prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |

51-55 Brunswick East Hove Brighton, East Sussex BN3 1AU United Kingdom +44 1273 77 0002 http://www.sanctuarycafe.co.uk/ |
This friendly and hip venue on three floors houses a renowned Brighton cafe which puts on a wide variety of events almost every night, from live music to poetry, for a small entrance fee. They also provide board games to play whilst drinking your coffee. Originally a completely vegetarian cafe, the menu has recently expanded to offer Burmese, European and African cuisine. Lunches range from home made soups, salads and baguettes. Evening meals include specials like Friday fish suppers - the Calimari in red wine and tomato sauce served with a mushroom risotto is divine. There are no GM foods and organic wines are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |
