Boardwalk

Eat on the beach
250a Kings Road Arches
(Lower Promenade)
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1NB
United Kingdom
+44 1273 74 6067
This restaurant is situated right on the beach next to The "Doughnut". It has a wonderful decked dining area outside—a perfect place to sip coffee to the sound of the waves washing over the pebbles. Open all day for drinks or food, The Boardwalk has a range of cocktails, shakes and alcoholic drinks. The menu is tempting, featuring Moules Marinieres and home made burgers along with organic meat dishes, salads and a good old English breakfast. The prices are reasonable and the location makes it hard to top.

Food For Friends

Feasts for friends

The Lanes
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1HF

This locals' favourite restaurant has an airy feel from the many tall windows and bright, green walls. Parents can rest assured that children are most welcome in this warm and friendly find. They have an excellent self-service selection of pick 'n' mix salads, bakes, pasta and rice dishes, and a collection of roasted/stuffed/fried vegetables of all kinds. The food here is exclusively vegetarian and vegan, and if you have diabetes, an allergy, or are on a gluten-free diet, then there's something on the menu for you. There is a healthy selection of organic wines, beers, ciders and soft drinks.

Room 101

Stylish vegan eaterie
101-102 Trafalgar Street
North Laine
Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4ER
United Kingdom

Small but beautifully laid out, this cafe maintains a cosy feel despite the ultra-modern look and windows for walls. The short, snacky, but imaginative, food menu is available midday-9pm. There is a tempting range of "Big Baps" from £2.95, a selection of nibbles such as chinese spring rolls with sauce for £2.75 and delicious desserts too. The food is described as "positively organic, definitely vegan". The wine list is organic, as is the fresh juice menu. Or you could sink into a ice cream and fresh organic fruit smoothie for £2.25, available with lovely booze added for just £4.25.

Sanctuary Cafe

Films and food
51-55 Brunswick East
Hove
Brighton, East Sussex BN3 1AU
United Kingdom

This friendly and hip venue on three floors houses a renowned Brighton cafe which puts on a wide variety of events almost every night, from live music to poetry, for a small entrance fee. They also provide board games to play whilst drinking your coffee. Originally a completely vegetarian cafe, the menu has recently expanded to offer Burmese, European and African cuisine. Lunches range from home made soups, salads and baguettes. Evening meals include specials like Friday fish suppers - the Calimari in red wine and tomato sauce served with a mushroom risotto is divine. There are no GM foods and organic wines are available.

Terre a Terre

Fantastic meatless dishes
71 East Street
Brighton BN1 1HQ
United Kingdom

This vegetarian restaurant has achieved national acclaim for its fine cuisine. Unlike many vegetarian restaurants, Terre a Terre presents dishes that are made with a light, sophisticated touch. The decor is chic and modern, but takes on an altogether more romantic tone with candles and dimmed lighting in the evening. The food is simply superb—it is beautifully presented, the Twice Baked Camembert Soufflé is divine. This is a deservedly popular restaurant. Be sure to book in advance.
