In a previous incarnation Casa Don Carlos was the Lorelei cafe. Owner Carlos has transformed the one time greasy spoon into a welcoming tapas house. Situated in the heart of the famous Lanes, this small Spanish restaurant is a very popular place. One may find a lively crowd dining, drinking and even partaking in a spot of flamenco dancing. Over 40 different tapas (£3-6)are offered, so your favourites are likely to be featured. The Tortilla Espanola, paella and serrano (traditional Spanish ham) are recommended. Wines range from £10.95-£19.95 a bottle.

+44 1273 73 7327 El Porron serves delicious Spanish food to many lucky diners. It's pleasant inside with blue walls, big mirrors and brightly colored pictures. This is certainly not fast food but authentic Spanish cuisine using fresh ingredients. The choice is wide and prices are reasonable. It's recommended that one has two per person but feel free to try as many as required. Follow that with one of a selection of home-made desserts. To accompany the fine Spanish fare, are a selection of wines.

+44 1273 77 0355 Latino is a great place for either drinks and a laugh, tapas or a full meal. Bright yellow walls and dark wooden furniture contribute to a pleasant atmosphere. Popular with locals and visitors to the area, the restaurant becomes very busy at weekends and booking is certainly advisable. 35 tapas, including all the favourites, are offered. Pasta dishes such as Penne al Arrabbiata (pasta with chilli, garlic, parsley, wine and tomato) are as inexpensive. Meat and fish dishes such as Filetto Rossini (fillet steak with pate, mushrooms and red wine sauce) are more expensive but certainly worth it.

+44 1273 778777 For nearly ten years Los Amigos has been serving fine Latin food. There's seating for over 70 and the setting is smart but laid back and lively. Be sure to book at weekends: there is live music and a real party atmosphere. A good selection of beers, wines and cocktails are on offer. The menu is huge and making a decision might take a while. Options are plentiful for veggies and meat eaters alike. Paella for up to four can be ordered (£20.95-£39.95) but allow half an hour for preparation. For those who prefer the comfort of their own abode, a delivery service is available from 6pm-11pm daily.

Symposio features a wide variety of Greek, Mediterranean and Continental dishes and wines. La Tapa de Oro offers over 70 tapas dishes and an extensive Spanish wine selection and homemade sangria.
