A good place for food shopping if you travel by car as it has a very large car park. It is also well known for its price rollback promotions, where hundreds of prices are kept low, so you'll find plenty of bargains. The range is excellent, as it is one of the largest supermarkets in Brighton. There is a clothing department, which is good for casualwear and shoes. They also have a delicatessen, a large bakery, fresh fish, a newsagent, a music section, and large meat and freezer departments. They also have a good selection of flowers and plants.

One of the best things about this shop is the relaxed atmosphere. You can guarantee that the shop assistant will be reading the paper and a cat will be sitting like Bagpuss on the counter. And like this infamous cat, the shop is a symbol of all that is retro. It is like a huge dressing up box, so the moral of this shopping lesson is "Search and Ye shall find"! It is a good place for Farah trousers and other fashion treasures. Upstairs, retro furniture can be found from chairs to hostess trolleys, so you can create the full effect.

Famous for incorporating crochet and outlandish patterns into haute couture, Karen Millen adds a touch of class with her use of rich, traditional fabrics. Despite being a fashion boutique, you won't find many little black dresses on display. Classic cuts that never reveal too much meet the catwalk styles with pinks and turquoises. This is a place for evening and special event wear as they don't really design casual outfits. You will find denim but always with some original touches using embroidery or patchwork. Sizes are user friendly coming in a 1, 2 and 3. Expect to pay around £120 for a dress, although you can pick up some bargains in the sales which are a good time to invest in coats. This small shop has two floors of trendy clothes for the skate scene dudes and the clubbing fraternity who like their urban sportswear. They stock mainly clothes for men, but have a good selection for the girls as well, Urb also sells bags, wallets and hats. With labels like Eastpak, Bench Addict, Dickies, Dirty Dog, Ben Davis, Performance and Hooch, there's not a lot you won't find. The counter is rather reminiscent of the decks at a club, and the owner is very friendly.

As this shop is situated at the furthest end of North Laine, it could be easy to miss. For the non-label conscious, this shop provides all the best styles in natural fabrics and at reasonable prices. With Hawaiian shirts and baggy trousers for the men and Chinese sandals and knee length skirts for the girls, this is where it's at. In front of the counter you'll find a nice selection of silver jewellery and to the side a huge collection of club flyers and posters. It's worth taking the time to look through the bargain bin.
