Brighton Marina Brighton, East Sussex BN2 5UZ United Kingdom +44 1273 60 6611 http://www.asda.co.uk |
A good place for food shopping if you travel by car as it has a very large car park. It is also well known for its price rollback promotions, where hundreds of prices are kept low, so you'll find plenty of bargains. The range is excellent, as it is one of the largest supermarkets in Brighton. There is a clothing department, which is good for casualwear and shoes. They also have a delicatessen, a large bakery, fresh fish, a newsagent, a music section, and large meat and freezer departments. They also have a good selection of flowers and plants. Cheese and more cheese |
17 Kensington Gardens North Laine Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4AL United Kingdom +44 1273 60 1129 |
This is surely where Jamie Oliver would shop if he came to Brighton. The best of cheeses from around Europe are displayed along the length of a huge cheese counter. Don't be afraid to ask for expert advice and for a taster - make the most of the benefits of a specialist shop as you will certainly be paying more than you do for supermarket plastic packed cheddar. Accompany oak-smoked cheeses with their olive foccacia bread or sundried tomatoes and wash down with a bottle of their Breton cider. The produce here makes for a perfect picnic in the nearby Pavilion Gardens. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Cakes on the catwalk |
24 Duke Street Brighton BN1 1AG United Kingdom +44 (0)1273 32 9462 http://www.choccywoccydoodah.com/ |
This shop is neatly tucked away in the Lanes, but attracts a crowd whenever it is commissioned to design a cake. This has got to be the most wacky cake shop in the South, if not the world at large! Cakes are displayed on stands like flower arrangements and a similar amount of work goes into them. From a spiky chocolate fetish cake to a three-tiered gateaux complete with iced vegetable decoration, they will create your wildest edible desire. Creativity comes at a price so expect to pay upto £3000 for a wedding cake. If you just want a nibble, a chocolate action man will set you back a mere £10. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Pasta sauces, pan-roasted aubergines soaked in olive oil, sundried tomatoes, pesto and olives are available at the deli counter. Amongst the various Italian food products on the shelves you'll find dried wild mushrooms, dried herbs, biscotti, raspberry oil and balsamic vinegar. British classics |
195 Western Road Brighton, East Sussex BN1 2BJ United Kingdom +44 1273 32 8081 http://www.marksandspencer.com |
Once the bastion of British shopping, Marks & Spencer has had to revive its appeal on the high street. Along with three floors of textiles, luggage, horticulture, make-up and food, this store has a new coffee bar offering morning coffee and afternoon tea. Although Marks & Spencer have been updating their clothes collections, luring famous designers in the process, they have never lost sight of what built their reputation in the first place - good quality at reasonable prices. Their lingerie remains a must-have. Rare is the person who doesn't own at least one article of M&S underwear. Review © 2007, Wcities |

There are bags of giant buttons, crystallised orange dipped in chocolate, bars and the turtles, of course. They also make a huge range of truffles like the Garden Party - strawberries and cream in a white chocolate truffle, and the Undercover Kilt - malt whisky in a wild, dark truffle. There is often a tray of samples on the counter so you can try before you buy - and you will want to buy. Review © 2007, Wcities |

One of the most popular supermarkets in Brighton, this branch is the smallest of its three stores in the city. Good for organic options, fish, fresh pasta and bakery products. National lottery tickets can be bought from its newsagent counter. Despite the size, it has plenty of tills, with some express checkouts for cash payers to speed things up. Selling themselves as "Chocolate Heaven since 1911", this is certainly the place most people come to for gifts for the sweet-toothed. Apart from the luxury range of individual chocolates, there are 99p taster bags to stop the cravings and Misshapes - rejects from the luxury range which taste just as good for a percentage of the price. There is a good selection for children with fondant filled chocolate pigs and lollies. They sell ice cream in the summer months and at Easter the eggs can be personalized with any message piped on in icing. The range has been recently extended to include chocolate scented t-shirts and bath foam. Another branch in George Street, Hove. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This medium sized food hall/supermarket is at the upper end of the price range. The choice is excellent with a good selection of meats, fish, fruit and vegetables and frozen food and they are always well-stocked. They have a delicatessen, a fishmonger, a butcher and a patisserie. You are also able to buy birthday cakes here. In the fresh vegetables section you will find a salad cart, which is very tempting. The choice of wines is superb and they are stored well. Extras include books, videos, picnic and BBQ accessories and hosiery. Review © 2007, Wcities |
