The sales assistants here are experts in the art of kite flying and you'll find specialist materials including Quadrifoil options and plenty of Flexifoil material on reams at the back of the shop. This isn't just a place for kites, but for many other airborne objects. Buggies hang from the ceiling along with colourful Flexifoil kites. Child size kites, frisbees and diabolos all make for original gifts.

This tiny shop holds a prime location on the trendy part of Brighton's seafront. Housed in one of the old fishing arches the shop has brought its connection with the sea into the modern age. Surfboards and body boards have replaced boats here, although the choice is limited by the size of the shop. The shop assistants are happy to give advice. They also sell a good range of tiny T-shirts, hooded tops, bags, Oakley sunnies, shorts and accessories for both girls and boys. The clothes are mainly their own label.

The Lagoon itself is a shallow windsurfing lake, suitable for beginners. There is also a Watersport Centre which runs courses in sailing and windsurfing, operates powerboat and inflatable banana rides and various group and corporate events. When you reach a higher standard you can have a try on the sea behind the Lagoon. There is a smaller boating lake with rowing boats hired by the half hour from the cafe next door and a large children's play area, paddling pool and putting green. Further along the seafront are public tennis courts.

They cater for men, women and children on two floors; you'll find more outdoor gear downstairs with the latest in Nike, Kickers and Ellesse and gym/swimwear and a huge selection of trainers upstairs. Bags range from flimsy drawstrings to large Adidas equipment carriers. The changing facilities are limited and you will need to ask for assistance.

For a day at the beach there are pool shoes and flippers. They also sell water bottles, which are great for the gym or cycling. In case you can't decide what to buy someone, they also sell gift vouchers.

You'll find this small specialist shop at the end of the road which continues on from St James's Street. Obsessed with all that makes the jogging experience complete, they stock trainers, lycra shorts, vests and other clothing in Gore-Tex fabrics at excellent prices. This is either a hangout for joggers or they have plenty of staff, as there always seems to be a lot of people around sharing advice and information about local runs. (You'll find a variety of leaflets for the same purpose.) Other products on sale include energy supplements, knee supports and those all-important socks and blister recovery packs.
