Everything for the artist |
74 Park Row Bristol BS1 5LE United Kingdom +44 117 926 0344 |
This art shop has everything for artists, whether they're professionals, budding Van Goghs, complete amateurs or just kids experimenting. Accompanying these is a wide choice of papers plus traditional sketchbooks, mannequins, easels, varnishes and fixatives, not forgetting of course the many different types of paintbrushes. You can also buy starter kits of various different materials—their watercolour starter kit is particularly good and contains everything you need to learn the craft. Now there's an idea—take the kit to some of the wonderful countryside around the city and spend a day painting, Ashton Court would be a good place to start. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Creative crafts and hobbies |
9 Worrall Road Clifton Bristol BS8 2UF United Kingdom +44 117 973 1710 |
Are you crafty? Well, look no further - this shop has an extensive and eclectic range of the kind of sedate and traditional crafts that are sadly going rapidly out of fashion. There are a wealth of interesting hobby kits including tapestry and embroidery kits - from tiny squares to large cushion covers - coloured beads for creating your own jewellery and stamping and embossing equipment. There are also silk/fabric paints and dyes, batik, stencils and a large section containing paints for china and glass. If you don't know where to start, try one of their books all about the various hobbies, which should point you in the right direction or go along to one of their creativity workshops, led by experienced tutors. Everything for budding David Baileys |

A tiny shop crammed with wonderful equipment, the London Camera Exchange is definitely the place to go for truly knowledgeable advice, film processing, or just to drool over the cameras on display. As its name suggests, they exchange cameras, buying from customers who want to update their equipment or buy something better, and then re-sell the equipment at very reasonable prices to new customers. They also supply just about every accessory you can think of and provide an efficient film processing service (around £3 for films up to 36 frames: hand them in before 10a and they should be ready to collect the following morning).
