This large, 70-concert festival celebrates the eclectic variety that jazz music has to offer. Occurring in various venues all over the city, the annual event features international artists like the Universal Language Quartet, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, the hot act Roots Manuva, legend Herbie Hancock and super talent Maceo Parker. The majority of the concerts take place in Brussels and occur around 8p each evening. Ticket prices vary depending on event, September through December. See website for exact yearly details.

The Festival of Belgian Films started in the year 1976 and it became an annual affair from the year 2002. Belgium plays host to several international film festivals, however, this festival is the only one which is solely devoted to Belgian films. The festival is held in the small village of Sambre in the province of Namur and it attracts a huge number of movie buffs every year.

In the past, this 10-day cinematic event has featured films like Peter Bogdanovich's The Cat's Meow, Guy Maddin's The Heart of the World, and Richard Linklater's Waking Life. In years past, French director Bertrand Tavernier was the guest of honor and concerts by Gabriel Yared and Elmer Bernstein were featured side events. Ticket prices range from EUR5-50 (for a 10-film pass).

Ivo van Damme, a talented Belgian runner (winning silver at the Montréal Olympics), died in a car crash. Brussels annually hosts this athletic celebration in his memory. This is a premier track & field grand prix of the world, although part of the IAAF Golden League, the Memorial Van Damme strives to be more than just a grand prix. Instead, it is a celebration for all those involved featuring live music (past artists featured have included disco-diva Gloria Gaynor), and a show-closing gigantic fireworks display.
