Bank

Was bank; now bar
79 Rue de Bailli, 79
Brussels 1050
Belgium
+32 (0)2 537 5265
http://www.thebank.be/
This Irish pub is housed in a converted bank that still has safe deposit boxes lining the walls, hence the name. It's also not far from Avenue Louise and it is located in an area where there are not too many pubs of its kind. Unlike many Irish pubs in Brussels, it is not full of folks wanting to watch sporting events. The atmosphere is casual and filled with locals of all nationalities. Saturday nights can be crowded when live Irish music or otherwise popular music selections are played.

James Joyce Irish Pub

Popular among eurocrats and expats
34 Rue Archimede
Brussels 1000
Belgium

Opened in May 1989, this former Pakistani restaurant became the first Irish pub in Brussels. Due to its popularity, many others followed suit. Today there are about 18 Irish pubs in the city. The James Joyce is a cosy wateringhole and during summer, those preferring fresh air are welcome to take their place in the back garden. Guinness is a popular favourite here, of course. The lunchtime menu includes Irish stew and smoked salmon.

Kitty O'Shea's

Irish pub near the EC
42 Boulevard Charlemagne
Brussels 1000
Belgium

The second Irish pub to open in Brussels (in early 1990), is just a few hundred metres from James Joyce, the very first one. Kitty's is very popular with Eurocrats and journalists. It is also a bit quieter than some of the other pubs in the same area. Live music on Wednesday evenings makes for a lively atmosphere. At the back of the cozy restaurant, the owners serve traditional Irish fare. The kitchen is closed on Saturdays but open Sunday lunchtimes.

MacSweeney's

Irish pub off Avenue Louise
24 Rue Jean Stas
Brussels 1060
Belgium
+32 (0)2 534 4741
Located off Avenue Louise, this Irish pub was one of the first to set up outside of the European Commission area. This large establishment has wooden tables and earth-toned walls with various Irish posters. The crowd consists of locals, as well as expatriates. You can order several dishes including simple soups and salads. Brunch is served on Sundays.
