An open book |
116 Rue Saint-Lambert Brussels 1200 Belgium +32 (0)2 762 9876 http://www.alivreouvert.be/ |
A Livre Ouvert is a nice bookshop in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, near Woluwe Shopping Center. This shop has books on any subject including science, linguistics, literature and leisure, all in French and English. A Livre Ouvert regularly organises debates on topical matters. This shop's enormous advantage is that it is next to Le Rat Conteur, a children's book shop, so don't hesitate in taking children along! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Buy shoes while playing |
144 Rue de l'Eglise Brussels 1150 Belgium +32 (0)2 779 0517 |
Alexandra Junior is a beautiful, thriving shoestore for little ones. It is so busy, that you have to take a number and wait your turn. In the meantime, kids can play. There is a TV with cartoons, they can draw and, instead of couches, there is a kind of tribune where children are fitted for shoes. Alexandra Junior regularly organises a drawing contest, after which the drawings are hung on the shop's walls. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The land of silk and money |
Avenue Louise Brussels 1050 Belgium +32 (0)2 513 8940 (Tourist information) |
Brussels' most exclusive shopping district provides a multitude of upscale and couture shopping on Boulevard de Waterloo, between its intersections with Chausée D'Ixelle and Avenue Louise, and down Avenue Louise itself. Just strolling through this neighbourhood, one notices a radical change in the way people dress and carry themselves. Jeans give way to Hugo Boss suits, and sneakers are replaced with Gucci stilettos. Visit during the summer and the two wide streets are veritable fashion runways. This is where Belgium's aristocracy hang out, where high-powered business execs book rooms (at one of the neighbourhood's top-of-the-line hotels), and where trust-fund bunnies spend hours replenishing their wardrobes. Cartier, Armani, Chanel anyone? Welcome to Brussels' equivalent to New York's Fifth Avenue, Paris's Rue Faubourg St. Honoré and London's Knightsbridge. Pull out your Gold Card and enjoy the browse. Fly Away |
12 kilometers northeast of city center Brussels, Flemish Brabant 1930 Belgium +32 (0)2 753 2687 http://www.brusselsairport.be |
Brussels being the capital of Europe, this airport is a gateway for a bevy of international diplomats, Eurocrats, business travellers and expatriates. Therefore, flights departing and arriving from this airport almost always seem to be fully booked, leaving in their wake a bustling airport filled with jittery travellers and those who've come to meet them. Most signs are posted in Belgium's three national languages, French, German and Dutch, as well as in English. Short-term and long-term parking facilities are available 24 hours a day. The bus station, located below the Arrivals Hall, can be reached by escalators and lifts through the Diamond Area. In addition to local bus services (De Lijn and MIVB/STIB) and hotel shuttles, a scheduled SN Brussels Airport Express bus for Antwerp is available. Taxis (metered) are available outside the Arrivals Hall. This is a fairly well-planned airport, so there are minimal frustrations. All major flights operate from here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Wine: good for the blood circulation |
181 Rue de l'église Brussels 1150 Belgium +32 (0)2 779 0894 http://www.maxivins.be/ |
Maxi Vins sells wine and champagne. The bottles are standing in the display window on wooden wine boxes; the owners offer a wide range of wines. Since the view of the bottle is insufficient to know whether it is quality wine or not, you can come to the shop every Saturday in order to taste wine for free. The manager advertises a few days in advance just which wines you can taste on Saturday. He also gives a detailed explanation of the wines during the tastings. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Nice little restaurant |
202 Rue Sainte-Lambert Woluwe Shopping Centre Brussels 1200 Belgium +32 (0)2 771 9454 |
On the ground floor of the Woluwe Shopping Centre you will find this wonderful Parisian-style restaurant, to which a quality fish shop is attached. While it is quite small, it has lots of charm and a buzzing atmosphere. The cuisine is French and Belgian (try the mussel menu!) and of a high quality. This is not a restaurant to travel all the way to Woluwe for, but if you're in the neighbourhood, this is a perfect place to dine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Famous pastry shop |
4 Place Dumonplein Brussels 1150 Belgium +32 (0)2 772 7245 http://www.patisseriemahieu.be... |
This establishment is located at place Dumon and is a very famous confectionery for miles around. People from neighbouring villages come here to buy their pastry and who can blame them! The cakes are real works of art and on top of that they taste good. Cakes come in numerous varieties and there is also gingerbread which tastes almost as good as the cakes. Mahieu has become a notion in the confectioner's world and whatever you buy in this shop is bound to be delicious. Maybe you pay a little bit more then elsewhere, but the cakes are worth the money. Small but cosy |
Place Dumon Brussels 1150 Belgium |
Stokkel Square is an arcade on the outskirts of the city. It is not extremely big, but cosy. There is a supermarket, an ice-cream parlour, a café-bar, a newspaper stand, and various shoe and clothes shops. Woluwe-Saint-Pierre is a rich municipality and the inhabitants are used to paying more for brands and for quality clothes. Do visit Stockel underground station; there's a two metres by fifty mural depecting all the characters from Tintin. Review © 2007, Wcities |
