Cylindrical hotel |
Szilagyi Erzsebet fasor, 47 District II Budapest 1028 Hungary +36 1 889 4200 http://www.danubiusgroup.com/b... |
This hotel is situated outside the city center, but is convenient for the famous Petofi Institute. Unusually, the hotel is shaped like a cylinder. Its' unique shape makes it a clearly visible landmark from any elevated point in the city. It is best to get a room on the upper floors from where you'll get a good view. The rooms are all quite spacious even if they are shaped like slices of cake. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kisdiofa utca, 13 District VII Budapest 1077 Hungary +36 1 321 1533 http://www.hotelambra.hu |
This apartment-only hotel actually works on a time-share scheme, so if you belong to RCI (Resort Condominiums International - an international time-share company) you could perhaps get an exchange week. The building is modern and has pleasant decor. All four-bedroom apartments come with a kitchen. The location is convenient - within walking distance of several sights and entertainment venues. Public transport is also available nearby. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Small inexpensive guest house |
Haros utca, 125 District XXII Budapest 1222 Hungary +36 1 226 7309 |
The twenty-second district is a little out of the way, but it is quiet and has good access to the center via public transit. This guest house has ten rooms, and offers a range of services, including a bureau de change. Parking facilities are also available. The main advantage to staying here is the fact that it is surrounded by relatively empty green areas. These are slowly vanishing, but some of them are being preserved, and they offer clean air, birds, nature and peace and quiet. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Apartment hotel with views |
Harshegyi ut, 5-7 District II Budapest 1021 Hungary +36 1 391 2300 |
This apartment-only hotel is up in the hills and therefore offers terrific views over the city. All apartments are self-catering and contain kitchens, which is both convenient and cost-saving. Thirteen of the apartments are doubles and seventy-eight can cater for three adults, or two adults and two children. The location is a good one: the center can be reached in less than half an hour by public transport. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Spa hotel |
Szent Gellert ter, 1 (District XI) Budapest 1111 Hungary +36 1 889 5501 http://www.danubiushotels.com |
Built between 1912 and 1918, this Art Nouveau spa hotel was destroyed in World War II, then rebuilt in the original style and modernized. The hotel's domed towers and baths give it an oriental flavor. There are baths, plunge pools, a sauna, massage centre, wave pool (built in 1927), a hot pool with medicinal spa water, as well as a sun terrace. An institute of water therapy also operates on the premises. The hotel has a delightful open-air restaurant terrace, which offers great views. There are four more cafés and restaurants to choose from inside. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Newer than it looks |
Hegyalja ut, 14 District I Budapest 1016 Hungary +36 1 209 4775 http://www.goldhotel.hu |
This hotel is located on the Buda side of the river, just off of a rather busy road. It looks historical, but is in fact a recently built replica, thus offering charm with the added comfort of all the modern conveniences. The location is within an easy bus ride of the centre and is also right next to Gellert Hill and other interesting sights. The hotel is rated as a four-star establishment. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Extremely large hotel |
Rakoczi ut, 90 District VII Budapest 1072 Hungary +36 1 889 4400 http://www.danubiusgroup.com/g... |
Located at the top of Rakoczi ut, next to the Keleti (Eastern) rail station, this is a big hotel (it claims to be the biggest in Hungary) with fairly unimpressive architectural features. The service is efficient and the rooms are acceptable - just pray that you don't get one at the end of one of the half-mile long corridors. There are also some 'junior suites', which have recently been refurbished. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In the heart of wine country |
Nagytétényi út 372 Budapest 1225 Hungary +36 1 207 8100 / +36 1 207 6201 http://www.hotelaquarius.hu/ |
Hotel Aqaurius is situated in Nagyteteny, which is the main wine producing area of Hungary. The hotel has an interesting mix of old world charm with new world facilities. Rooms are exclusive as far their interiors are concrened and are specially designed with the handicapped and people suffering from allergies in mind. Enjoy the calm and silence of this place and give your tired nerves a much needed break at the spa with a rejuvenating massage. If business is on your mind, then there are special conference rooms where you can hold training, press coferences and weddings. All in an environment of peace. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Comfortable and affordable |
Nagy Lajos Kiraly, 15-17 District XIV Budapest 1148 Hungary +36 1 383 8418 |
This middle-of-the-road hotel offers excellent accommodation at reasonable prices. Located near City Park, it is a short ride by public transit to the city center. Owned by the Eravis chain, it was once a workers' hostel. It is now considerably more luxurious and has a three-star rating. The good location means that you can take strolls in the neighborhood, passing some of the city's most famous streets and landmarks. It's a great area, and within walking distance of the Zoo, the Amusement Park, museums, thermal baths and much more. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Situated in an interesting area |
Bartok Bela ut, 152 District XI Budapest 1113 Hungary +36 1 204 0044 |
This three-star hotel offers good service at reasonable prices. All rooms have a mini-bar, as well as satellite TV and telephones. Breakfast is included in the price, making this a real bargain. The hotel is located within easy bus range of such sights as Gellert Hill and the Gellert Hotel and Thermal Baths. It's also only a short ride (perhaps fifteen minutes) to Castle Hill. The street itself is full of small and interesting shops, some good traditional restaurants and genuine neighborhood side streets. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Just outside city centre |
Blathy Otto utca, 21 District VIII Budapest 1089 Hungary +36 1 210 4125 |
This hotel is located on a side street in the eighth district, near a main road (Ulloi ut). There is a Metro stop within walking distance. Through much renovation and renewal, the eighth district has added lots of interesting small shops and cafés. Its seedier side has been almost completely eliminated, and now this neighborhood can be considered one of the most genuine in the city. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Beautiful complex in Buda hills |
Fodor utca 143 (District XII) Budapest 1124 Hungary +36 1 395 1872 http://www.hotel-molnar.hu |
These two beautiful houses are located in the green and leafy Buda hills, and command spectacular views of the city. They have a large garden in the back, a playground across the road, and both a sauna and small gym. It's definitely worth asking for one of the rooms with a big balcony (at no extra charge); the biggest one is actually bigger than the room itself! Deck chairs and cushions are provided so you can enjoy sunning yourself on your own terrace. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Affordable, downtown hotel |
Konyves Kalman korut, 44 District VIII Budapest 1087 Hungary +36 1 333 6505 |
This three-star hotel is located in the eighth district. It offers the usual Eravis chain features such as satellite TV and mini-bar, but at a more attractive price than most of its competitors. It is a short tram ride to the city centre and other attractions. While you may have heard that the eighth district has a dubious reputation, it is constantly being gentrified, and is now a much more respectable (and affordable) part of the city. New and upscale restaurants, cafes and bars are opening here all the time, while the more seedy element is almost completely gone. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Three-star accomodation |
Fehervari ut, 179 District XI Budapest 1119 Hungary +36 1 208 1232 |
Located on the Buda side, this hotel has 149 rooms. It used to be a workers' hostel, but was converted into a three-star hotel by the ambitious Eravis chain. Now it offers comfortable rooms with good facilities at fairly reasonable prices. The location is not exactly central, but there are good public transit connections to the centre. There are some very interesting small neighborhoods around the hotel, including places that in the past would have been considered separate villages on the outskirts of Budapest. Keep an eye out for old wine cellars dug into the sides of hills as you drive along. Many of these are still in use, and this remains a wine storage and distribution area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Deluxe panzio on the edge of town |
Ordogorom ut 20d District 11 Budapest 1112 Hungary +36 1 246 4558 |
This upmarket panzio can be found on the Budapest side of the city boundary. It is located in a quiet area and Rupp-hegy (hill) which is 257 meters high and is within a five-minute walk. If you want to visit the city but would like a little distance from it at night, this is the place to stay. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Revay utca 24 District VI Budapest 1065 Hungary +36 1 269 0222 http://www.kkhotels.com |
This is a modern Austrian-owned hotel set in a quiet street off Andrassy utca, only a stone's throw from the Opera House. The lobby and rooms are spacious, light and airy. The location is very convenient as it is on a metro line and also within walking distance of many sights. Many multinational companies have recently opened brand new offices right near here as well. Located beside southern railway station |
Krisztina korut, 41-43 District I Budapest 1013 Hungary +36 1 488 8100 |
This hotel is located next to one of Budapest's few architectural disasters: the southern railway station. Fortunately, many rooms face away from the station, towards Castle Hill so be sure to ask for one of these when booking! The standards are high as you might expect from the Mercure chain. The hotel is on several public transit lines. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Large downtown hotel |
Kecskemeti utca, 14 District V Budapest 1053 Hungary +36 1 486 8800 http://www.mercure.com |
This very large hotel is made up of two separate buildings, connected to each other by one of Budapest's few aerial walkways. The location is excellent, on a side street just off one of the city's busiest thoroughfares. The windows have been soundproofed, ensuring your stay will be peaceful. There are many trendy cafés and excellent restaurants nearby and many sights are within easy walking distance. Be aware that there are several Mercure hotels in the city: you will need to know the name of the one you have chosen or the taxi driver may take you to the wrong one. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Equipped with a bowling alley |
Alkotas utca, 63-67 (District XII) Budapest 1123 Hungary +36 1 209 1990 http://www.novotel-bud-congres... |
This is the perfect spot for those conventioneers who are attending something at the city's International Conference Centre, which is just next door; they host hundreds of conferences each year. It's situated at a main highway junction on the Buda side on the road leading out to Vienna, making for a convenient commute to all points along the way, as well as for day trips outside the city. Bowling enthusiasts, you're at home, for there's an alley in the hotel. A full selection of business services are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Smaller hotel just outside the centre |
Ulloi ut 108 District X Budapest 1101 Hungary +36 1 263 0794 |
This two star hotel is in a nice building; the only drawback is that it is close to both a major road and train tracks: ask for a room at the back. Travel to the centre is easy (about seven minutes by metro). There are some interesting walks to be had in the immediate area, revealing a somewhat different side to Budapest than the impression offered by the city centre. You may wish to leave the Metro several stops before downtown, as the walk from there passes through some of Budapest's more interesting streets, full of small local cafes, shops and other interesting places. Tas vezer utca, 7 District XI Budapest 1114 Hungary +36 1 889 5600 http://www.danubiusgroup.com/f... |
Follow the signs for this hotel as you drive in on the highway from Vienna. It's a big hotel set in calm and peaceful surroundings overlooking a park. There are recreational facilities nearby, as well as some good restaurants. Getting to the centre takes less than twenty five minutes by public transport. It should be noted that the lower-floor rooms are slightly cheaper. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located in the city center |
Vaci utca, 20 (District V) Budapest 1052 Hungary +36 1 485 3100 http://www.hoteltaverna.hu |
This is arguably the most conveniently located hotel in the city, that is, for those who like to shop and be in the thick of things. Its attractive price helps as well! Located on Vaci utca, the main downtown pedestrian shopping street, Taverna Hotel is a hop and a skip from the action. It houses a delightful coffee shop to get you going and also offers bicycles for rent. Try their excellent restaurant which offers a decently priced lunch buffet. The staff is friendly and informative. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Bem rakpart, 11 Budapest 1027 Hungary +36 1 457 8080 http://www.victoria.hu |
This is a small modern hotel, separated from the Danube (on the Buda side) by a road. It offers terrific views of the river and is surrounded by an historic area that has long been neglected but which has recently been undergoing renewal. There are many sights within easy walking distance (including a staircase that leads up to Castle Hill) and it has good access to public transport. Most of the rooms here are twins.
