Café with Germanic theme |
Andrassy ut 24 Budapest 1061 Hungary +36 1 353 2233 |
This cafe has a long history and was once a haunt for writers and poets. The café has a tasteful atmosphere with red marble floor, grey marble tables and wooden chairs. German classes of all levels are taught over a cup of coffee. Newspapers, periodicals and magazines (mostly in German will provide you with something to read. Cocoa is served in giant yellow French soup bowls. Order a coffee and the friendly waiter will bring it on a silver tray with a glass of water, just like in a Vienna coffee houses. A range of sandwiches and cakes sit under glass and more elaborate daily specials are chalked up on the board. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This shop near Oktogon stocks a great selection of art books and fiction, mainly in Hungarian. There is a sit-down area where you can flip through books and papers and the window displays are always very imaginative and attractive. This shop is definitely worth a visit. If you've never experienced what a laid-back, reading style bookstore is like, then this place can provide a good introduction. There are several other reading room bookshops in Budapest, some of which even serve coffee and snacks. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This small shop is in a once-neglected area of the city that is now becoming very chic. There are many trendy cafés and restaurants nearby. The tastefully decorated store sells clothes that are designed by the young and talented Hungarian Eva Vass (whom the shop is named after). The fabrics are all unique and interesting, the styles original and contemporary and the prices reasonable. Apart from the fashion, there is also a carefully selected range of decorative household items, most of which are produced by local artists and craftspeople. This is an interesting store that will give you many creative, decorative and fashionable ideas. Ms. Vass also does costumes for films and other productions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Internet café |
Paulay Ede utca, 7 District VI Budapest 1061 Hungary +36 1 267 8603 |
There are eight terminals on the second floor of the Vista Café travel emporium. Internet rates are reasonable and it is best to call and reserve a terminal beforehand. You may also make (relatively) inexpensive international phone calls, rent a locker, post a message or find an apartment on the multilingual bulletin boards by the stairs. Review © 2007, Wcities |
