Month-Long Christmas Event |
Vorosmarty Square Budapest 1052 Hungary +36 1 266 0479 (Tourist Information Centre) http://www.gotohungary.com |
Vorosmarty ter never looks as fine as it does during the Christmas Bazaar. The whole square is taken over by cottage-style wooden booths, selling a wide range of gifts and other items. Traditional food is also on hand and there is a large stage where all kinds of performances can be seen free of charge. If you're in Budapest in December, don't miss a trip to Vorosmarty ter, have a glass of mulled wine and pick out some original Christmas gifts while being entertained by folk music performances. Looking for a summer festival in Budapest that's a little less rowdy than most? A little more cultural and high brow, maybe? Then check out the line up in the Budapest Summer Festival spread over various venues. The now world-famous BudaFest Summer Opera and Ballet Festival, which is held at the Opera House also features during the latter half of the festival. It combines the best of Hungarian talent with performers from around the globe. The focus is on opera and ballet and the standards are very high, as Budapest critics demand no less. Bring Your Cape & Cowl |
22, Andrássy St (Opera House) Budapest 1061 Hungary +36 1 1530170 http://www.opera.hu/ |
There's nothing more old world European than a masked ball, and no better way to usher in the New Year than attending one. This is definitely the most stylish and celebrated New Year's ball in the city. Held in the famous Opera House, it is an old-fashioned masked event. There is music, dancing and a party that spills out onto the streets afterwards. The biggest problem is usually getting a ticket to this perennially sold-out event. But book early, find your most outrageous or elegant mask and enjoy! Review © 2007, Wcities |
