Promoting Park Power |
The Parkside Lodge 84 Parkside Avenue (in Delaware Park, near Florence Avenue) Buffalo, NY 14214 United States +1 716 838 1249 http://www.buffaloolmstedparks... |
Famed 19th century landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted left Buffalo a lasting legacy: the first system of parks and parkways he designed within the city limits. The six parks include Delaware, Martin Luther King, Jr., Front, South, Cazenovia Park and Riverside, making up 75 percent of Buffalo's green space. This conservancy helps preserve, maintain and promote the park system with both regular group tours and special events held throughout the year. Among the events: the Park Tour Series, and an Olmsted Fallfest and Winterfest. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Prairie Style |
125 Jewett Parkway (Off Delaware Park) Buffalo, NY 14214 United States +1 716 856 3858 http://www.darwinmartinhouse.org/ |
Neglected after the Martin family left the area, this historic building, one of a half-dozen built by Frank Lloyd Wright in and around Buffalo, has undergone intensive restoration. Located near Delaware Park, the building is a good example of Wright's Prairie Style. Other structures on the complex include the Barton House, with original interior wood and art glass, a covered walkway connecting the main house with the conservatory, and a gardener's cottage. A Real Cliffhanger |
6472 Old Lake Shore Rd (Near South Creek Rd) Buffalo, NY 14047 United States +1 716 947 9217 http://graycliff.bfn.org/ |
Summer home for the folks who lived in the Darwin D. Martin House in the early part of the 20th century, this building is one of a half-dozen designed in the Buffalo area by Frank Lloyd Wright. Its location is spectacular, south of Buffalo on a 70-foot cliff overhanging Lake Erie. The house is important architecturally because it marks a transition period between Wright's earlier Prairie Style and his concrete designs. Tour admission is $10 for adults. Tours generally last 1 hour and 15 minutes. Keep in mind that Graycliff tours are not appropriate for children under 10 years. Reservations are required. Check website for additional information.
