Seasoned greens |
2502 6th Street Northeast (North of 16th Avenue, just west of Deerfoot Trail) Calgary, AB T2E 3Z3 Canada +1 403 276 7981 http://www.calgaryelks.com/ |
After 50 years in operation, this semi-private club course has a seasoned, mature feel to it in comparison to the newer courses surrounding it. The course plays from four different tees with total lengths ranging from 5,376 to 6,810 yards. The course winds along the Nose Creek Valley, and water comes into play on several holes. Since the club is semi-private, there are some access restrictions for non-members; call for details. To round out the experience, the facility boasts a driving range, putting greens and a fully stocked pro-shop. Greens fees are in the CAD40 range for non-members. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Play the coulees |
Highway 2A and Milligan Drive Calgary, AB T1S 1A5 Canada +1 403 938 5522 / +1 403 938 4455 (Pro Shop) http://www.darcyranchgolf.com/ golf@darcyranchgolf.com |
The course is located just south of Calgary's city limits and is set above, over and often along ranchland coulees—mini valleys carved by ancient creeks and rivers. Trees are sparse, with the challenge instead being rolling terrain and well-protected landing areas and greens. The course plays anywhere from 5,600 to 6,900 yards, with a slope rating as high as 130. The club is considered one of the better public tests in the area. Check the website for fees and other details. Review © 2007, Wcities |

One tough little nine |
1450 Harvest Hills Drive Northeast Northern city limits, west of airport Calgary, AB T3K 3X3 Canada +1 403 226 1052 / +1 403 226 1203 (Pro Shop) hhgc@shaw.ca |
Nine-hole golf tracks wedged between the winding streets of new suburbs are rarely great tests of the sport, but this one is an exception to that rule. There are 68 bunkers, and water comes into play on seven of the nine holes. This course is challenging, but not a beast; a novice can still come out and beat the ball around, though a few balls might find a watery grave in the process. Green fees are CAD16 for nine holes and rental carts and clubs are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Among Canada's best |
1 Heritage Pointe Drive, RR1 Calgary, AB T0L 0X0 Canada +1 403 256 9192 http://www.heritagepointe.com inform@heritagepointe.com |
Ranked in the Top 25 golf courses in the country, this beautiful beast of a course is open to the public but adopts the "country club for a day" approach to service; golfers are pampered from the moment they pull into the parking lot. Players are sent out over two of the three nines, with 18 holes winding through the Pine Creek coulee and another nine built up top the 'Desert Nine'. This is Calgary's most expensive public course, but few golfers question the fees given the quality and challenge of the day. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Just try to be bored in this place. Kart World features Go Karts, an 18 hole computerized miniature golf course (it plays pranks on players at every hole), bumper boats (perfect fun for hot days), and a black-lit maze for Lazer Tag. There is also a picnic area, a video arcade and a snack bar. Kart World is happy to book parties for large groups, including corporate and birthday parties, and barbecues are available on request. This is a perfect venue for children and the childish. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Play by the Bow |
17215 McKenzie Meadows Drive Calgary, AB T2Z 2T9 Canada +1 403 257 2255 http://www.mckenziemeadows.com/ robert.hunt@mckenziemeadows.com |
Set in a basin below the ever-expanding South Calgary suburb of McKenzie, this course runs alongside the Bow River and while those famed waters are never in play, there are plenty of ponds on the layout to feed balls. One of the newest public access courses in the city, the 6,500-yard layout was designed to challenge players of all levels, but frustrate none of them. Warm up at the driving range or refresh at the clubhouse, which is complete with pro shop and lounge. Greens fees are CAD45. Review © 2007, Wcities |
