Tasty Ethiopian cuisine |
309 10 Street Northwest Calgary, AB T2N 1W7 Canada +1 403 270 4550 |
One of two Ethiopian restaurants in Calgary, the Blue Nile serves up traditional Ethiopian dishes, such as chicken doro w'et and lamb gored gored, for the adventurous diner. The chefs employ such exotic spices as false cardamom and bishop's weed in their tasty and generous stews, and each meal is accompanied by a large woven basket of soft ingerra bread. The decor is simple: photos and Ethiopian fabrics, and the bar fridge is tiny, but the attraction here is definitely the delicious cuisine. Review © 2007, Wcities |

In the freezer of this Bridgeland shop, you will find curried goat meat, oxtail, fish and jerk chicken. The shelves are stocked with African pepper sauces, palm oil, baking supplies, condiments, bags of rice and a large selection of canned and dried beans. A small selection of fresh produce includes hot peppers, plantain, cassava and huge coco yams. Joy also serves up tasty Caribbean dishes such as Jamaican patties, but the limited seating means you might have to take your lunch to go. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat like an Egyptian |
937 7 Avenue SW Calgary, AB T2P 1A5 Canada +1 403 282 0030 |
This restaurant specializes in tasty Egyptian cuisine and Middle Eastern groceries. The menu includes such traditional Egyptian fare as kusheri, kebabs, kofta, and shawarma, as well as decidedly non-Egyptian pizza. There is a children's menu and dinner combinations that match sandwiches, kebabs and kofta with tasty salads and bread. Their Arabic coffee is wonderful. The decor is simple; the walls are hung with replica Pharaonic art and papyrus. The grocery is stocked with cardamom coffee, lentils and spices as well as Egyptian pastries and deli meats.
