A better than average diner in trendy Kensington, this friendly restaurant offers more than the expected selection of sandwiches and burgers. There is a substantial list of wok works, consisting of Asian inspired stir-fries and curries. The all-day breakfast is a boon for late-risers, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings when the locals come bleary-eyed to nurse their hangovers with big omelets. Work by local artists hangs on the walls and draws attention away from the rather cheapo plastic laminated tabletops.

The Bean Stop

Front row for market performers
200 Barclay Parade Southwest
Eau Claire Market
Calgary, AB T2P 4R5
Canada
+1 403 261 0865
From its central location in Eau Claire Market, this tiny coffee shop gives the best vantage point for watching the buskers who exchange insanity for loose change. It also boasts one of the best selections of loose teas and bulk coffee beans, including the rare, and duly pricey Jamaican Blue Mountain bean. Funky mugs and other coffee-related merchandise are also for sale. Order a big latte or cup of herbal tea and relax at one of the wooden barrel tables. Just remember to save a few coins for Dan the One Man Band.

Tony Roma's

A place for ribs

Calgary, AB T2E 8R7

Tony Roma's has several locations in the city, each boasting soft lighting, hardwood floors, lots of plants and attention to detail, making it a great place to bring family and friends for a dose of comfort food. Although they specialize in ribs, you can also choose from an appetizer platter filled with potato skins, chicken wings and deep fried cheese sticks, as well as a variety of salads and steak and chicken entrees—but the flame broiled baby back ribs in tangy barbeque sauce are the biggest hit.
