Monstrous desserts are the ticket |
7600 Macleod Trail Southeast Calgary, AB T2H 0L9 Canada +1 403 255 7443 http://www.cheesecakecafe.ca/ |
On weekend nights, the waiting crowd spills out to the parking lot, anxious to exercise their guilty dining pleasures. The contemporary menu offers a wide range of selections from pasta to burgers, but just about everyone saves tummy room for one of the oversized dessert items, of which there are countless choices and good values. Come dessert time, seasoned visitors spring up from their tables and carefully choose from the many cheesecakes, pies and puddings chilling inside a glass display case near the entrance. The portions are huge, with take-home containers being standard issue. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Slow roasted chicken |
2775 32nd Avenue Northeast Calgary, AB T1Y 2G1 Canada +1 403 250 2828 |
The specialty here is delicious, succulent chicken that is slowly oven roasted rather than coated with batter or deep-fried, a method that is rapidly catching on. You can order a Chicken Clubhouse and a Chicken Cheese Melt and still have enough moolah in your wallet for seconds. There are also a number of delicious salads and desserts to choose from. This is the fast food of chicken; you will find a casual but fast paced atmosphere in a clean and unpretentious setting. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Calgary's Living History |
1900 Heritage Drive SW (At 14th St SW) Calgary, AB T2V 2X3 Canada +1 403 268 8500 http://www.heritagepark.ca/ |
Canada's largest living historical village is divided into a pioneer Northwest Mounted Police outpost and a 1910 Main Street. The latter has a working antique amusement park, with rides that are safe even for small children. Other attractions include a working full-scale locomotive thundering through the park, and on nearby Glenmore Reservoir, a vintage double-decker stern wheeler ship that takes visitors on lake cruises. Shops and restaurants are plentiful in the park, including a turn-of-the-century bakery. All park staff work in costume and character. Entertaining events for the whole family are scheduled year-round, including September's Fall Fair. Check website for full list of events. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Child friendly coffeehouse |
2138 33rd Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB T2T 1Z6 Canada +1 403 240 9133 |
There can not be many coffeehouses in Calgary that are more comfortable than this one. Located in a renovated house in hip Marda Loop, this cafe is a perfect place to while away the hours over a "cup of joe." The wooden patio is especially inviting, as are the homemade soups and salsas. You can even check your e-mail on the online computer while the kids run amok in a toy-blessed children's area. Who wouldn't love this place? Review © 2007, Wcities |

Venerable, affordable steak |
7104 MacLeod Trail South (At 70th Avenue, south of Chinook Centre Mall) Calgary, AB T2H 0L3 Canada +1 403 253 2534 http://www.kegsteakhouse.com/ |
Restaurants come and go, but the Keg chain has been around for more than a generation as a reliable place for a good steak, devoid of the stuffiness of more traditional steakhouses. Known for a casual atmosphere, table help who insist you know their names and big salad bars, this particular outlet holds true to form. It is set in what looks to passersby like a classic Western ranch house and carries that homey (though bustling) feel inside. Alberta prides itself on its beef, and that's the mainstay of the menu, with filet mignon, New York cuts and prime rib, all at moderate prices. There are two more Keg outlets in Calgary, plus two in Banff. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A pub but so much more |
2000 Airport Rd NE P.O Box 160 Calgary, AB T2N 4C7 Canada +1 403 292 8440 http://www.kelseys.ca/home.html |
This is a great place to go if you are looking for a restaurant that appeals to a broad range of tastes. It offers an excellent assortment of appetizers and goodies for sharing, as well as delicious entrees such as prime rib, seafood and pasta. Dark and homey, a cross between an English pub and your great grandfather's basement, it is filled with treasures and memorabilia like original Coca-Cola signs and quaint old-fashioned pictures of Americana. Child-friendly, it offers a great menu for the kids. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Child friendly restaurant |
8 Parkdale Crescent North West Calgary, AB T2N 3T8 Canada +1 403 270 7810 |
Small and intimate, the Lazy Loaf & Kettle is actually a two-in-one facility. One side is an old-fashioned store that sells baked goods made from scratch; the other side is a cozy café bar, where you can enjoy an intimate meal at tables for two or four. In addition to an excellent assortment (and generous portions) of soups, enjoy baked goods and desserts at excellent prices. This spot is so child-friendly, it maintains a playroom for children. Ciao bella |
1935 Uxbridge Drive Northwest Stadium Shopping Centre Calgary, AB T2N 2V2 Canada +1 403 220 0222 http://www.lucianosrestaurant.com |
This friendly eatery is bright with quirky grape-shaped light fixtures, ubiquitous checkered tablecloths and a young, attractive staff. The cuisine might be best described as 'fun Italian' that features such favourites as Gnocchi, Lasagna, Chicken Marsala and pizzas. Their selection of pastas is lengthy and servings are enormous. While Italian-food purists might scoff at the less traditional dishes, such as the General Po Hunan Pasta, Luciano's offers enjoyable and affordable meals in a casual atmosphere. A healthy and fresh alternative |
405, 5005 Dalhousie Drive Northwest Calgary, AB T3A 5R8 Canada +1 403 286 7779 |
The Mongolie Grill is a large restaurant that seats about 75 and offers a fresh and healthy alternative to the regular dining scene. You pay by the gram, and after selecting the various fillings such as seafood, raw vegetables, meats and spices, the cooks go to work, and create their magic. It is a nice way to spend an evening and the stir-fries are always quick and delicious. Because it is the only one of its kind in the NW area, they do a booming business at lunchtime. Italian food that will suit your budget |
333 36th Street Northeast Calgary, AB T2A 7R4 Canada +1 403 248 1020 http://www.olivegarden.com |
This is a great, child-friendly restaurant where the parents can kick back with a nice glass of vino and enjoy some good Italian food at really good prices. There is a child's menu included and, along with dozens of different types of pasta, you can choose from a large selection of appetizers and seafood. The décor is typical Italian with white archways, candles on the tables, and soft music in the background. All that's missing is the Mediterranean sun! Review © 2007, Wcities |

A child-friendly Tex-Mex spot |
9250 Macleod Trail South Calgary, AB T2J 0P5 Canada +1 403 253 9096 |
The Santa Fe Grill offers delicious, nutritious Tex-Mex for adults and children. Your kids will love the choices on their own menu, and the waitresses are quick to bring plenty of crayons. The adults can sit back and enjoy a real fruit margarita or choose a shot from the largest selection of tequila in Calgary. While many patrons enjoy the outdoor patio during the warmer months, inside there are plenty of tables and booths. The delicious homemade tortillas and tacos win raves from diners, as well as the steak, chicken and Mexican rice. Review © 2007, Wcities |
