There seems to be a number of Vietnamese and Thai restaurants springing up in the city, but the Bogolac Saigon Restaurant is arguably one of the best. Located near Chinook Center, it is a quaint little restaurant that seats approximately 95 people. The atmosphere is bustling and the service is quick and friendly. Lunchtimes are busy, so if you don't want to stand in line, get there early. Located on the edge of downtown, this tiny cafe specializes in tasty Vietnamese cuisine. The menu is small and features delicious Vietnamese-style submarines, beef noodle soups, vermicelli, and combination rice dishes such as stir-fried lemon grass chicken. There is also a large selection of beverages including jackfruit shakes, lemon soda and sublime Vietnamese coffee. The simple decor, accented by plastic trees and wooden parrots, won't win any awards, but the food here is fantastic and staggeringly cheap. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gee Gong Restaurant is hiding just off Center Street, on the edge of Calgary's Chinatown. Décor is not their strongest point, but the food and friendly staff definitely make up for it. They offer chicken, shrimp and seafood dishes as well as BBQ meat at very reasonable prices: around $4 for appetizers and $7 for main dishes. The no-frills hot pots are popular; choose beef and bean curd or squid and oyster. Be aware they might have trouble digging up an alcoholic beverage, the bar choices are limited. This restaurant in the trendy Kensington district specializes in Vietnamese and Thai cuisine. Most popular are the "at table" barbecues of meat and seafood, but other menu items include beef satay, Saigon salad, Thai curries, Vietnamese beef noodle soups, rice vermicelli and a variety of appetizers including something called Sea Ghost Fingers. The decor is standard Asian-restaurant chic, complete with lanterns, Asian prints and the ubiquitous tank of tropical fish. This is a fine place for a tasty and affordable Asian feed.
