If you've been missing home or simply have a desire for something basically British, then ex-patriate owners Anne and Dave Walker have achieved their goal. Found in the Eau Claire Market, the store aims to cater to everybody and to make a selection of the UK's favorite things available for us to enjoy in Calgary. They import British candies and chocolates, newspapers and magazines. Also extremely heart-warming are the range of grocery items, such as Irish oatmeal and popular breakfast cereals, teas and cookies.

From the outside, this enormous shopping centre looks a bit like a giant spaceship. The Bay, Zellers and Sears are the major stops here, while The Gap, Eddie Bauer, Hallmark and The Sony Store are among some 150 other mall tenants. There are also dozens of services and a professional building at the heart of the mall. A massive new food court is the feature attraction of the reworked mall, which for years was in many ways two malls separated by an elevated parking garage.

If you're crazy about nuts, you can choose between Reverse Almond and Macadamian Chocolate Chunk Cookies. If experimentation with flavors in cookies isn't your thing, then take a pick between the peanut-butter and milk flavors. The Chewy Oatmeal Raisin is a welcome entry of dry fruits into the cookies. The Double Chocolate Chunk is for those who can't get enough chocolate. Of course, there's a host of beverages available to accompany the cookies.

Izo Bizo is easily one of Calgary's most progressive hair salons. They have been operating for 20 years and have an excellent reputation for the latest in cutting and coloring techniques. You will feel pampered from the time you enter as they offer each client a complimentary aromatherapy scalp massage and will also touch up your makeup when you are done. Prices range from $35 Cdn to $70 Cdn, plus tax.

The salon is very upmarket and caters to the more fashion-conscious individual. The staff are skilled and helpful and will make you feel very comfortable, even if blue highlights are not your thing.

The salon is open late evenings by appointment and bookings are recommended during regular business hours.

As Calgary's Chinatown outgrows its downtown boundaries and spreads northwards, it brings jewels like this vast Asian supermarket in its wake. Lambda carries a huge selection of Asian foodstuffs (who knew there were this many varieties of dried noodles?) as well as an attached bakery, meat counter and tanks of live seafood. The prices are staggeringly low, the selection immense, and the store is always jammed with aged Asian women loading carts with the weird and wonderful. Roots began in 1973 selling the shoe that everyone wore for years in high school. The original Roots were a mix between a desert boot and running shoe, and everyone from thirteen years old and onward had a pair. Since that universal start in the early 1970's, Roots has grown and expanded, and now carries sweatshirts, sweatpants, boots and a whole line of comfortable and reasonably priced clothing. There are 5 locations in Calgary, and each location plans to begin selling jeans, cotton shirts and more accessible apparel.

For travelers going hiking in Banff or Jasper, this is an excellent place to get outfitted with proper footwear.
