Colorful imported clothing and art |
200 Barklay Parade Southwest Calgary, AB T2P 4P5 Canada +1 403 262 9022 |
If you're looking for a thick sweater to combat the chill of a Calgary winter, this shop is the place to go. Although the eclectic boutique imports clothing and art from around the world, its best product is the handmade wool sweaters stacked at the back. The warm creations are spun from a variety of wools, then hand-dyed and knit into dozens of patterns, including the classic Mexican Eagle, Maple Leaf, Peruvian and Scandinavian designs. The painted ceremonial masks hanging on the walls, or the twisting, Celtic-inspired candleholders are sure to capture your interest. Rare and handmade rugs |
1316 11th Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB T2P 1M6 Canada +1 403 262 5323 http://www.houseofpersianrugs.... |
The walls, floor, furniture, and even the ceiling of this store are covered by handmade Persian Rugs. It might be hard to tell where the store ends and the merchandise begins, so the best way to learn about the qualities and history of each rug is to get the owner to walk you through the room and show you the individual differences which make each rug unique. It usually takes two visits to decide on a rug, one to learn the finer points of rug appreciation and the other to select a rug and haggle over the price with the owner. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eccentric clothing and carvings |
1222 9th Ave Southeast Calgary, AB T2G 0T1 Canada +1 403 266 6369 |
It's hard to know exactly what to think when you walk into this store—it could be an international import shop, a thrift store, or a designer fashion outlet—except that all the clothes are second-hand. Although they are pre-owned, the clothes are in mint condition and sport well-known brand names such as Brooks Brothers and Le Chateau. In the rear of the building, there is antique and locally made furniture, as well as a collection of imported South American and Celtic sculpture that rivals the selections of many specialty shops. A Calgary shopping institution. |
318 11th Avenue Southeast Calgary, AB T2G 0Y2 Canada +1 403 262 6994 / +1 800 909 6994 http://www.ribtor.com/ |
Remember that funny little corner store when you were growing up as a kid? The one that had everything? Well, Ribtor is its big brother. It's been part of the Calgary shopping landscape for close to fifty years and offers thousands of items at very reasonable prices. This is especially important if you have children and are looking to stay on a budget. The Army Surplus section is worth a visit just to check out some of the archaic and somewhat frightening military ware. Ribtor stocks everything from Coleman stoves to fishing poles; garden hoses to basketballs. In fact, if they don't have it, they promise to find it. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Architectural antiques |
5915 1a Street Southwest Calgary, AB T2T 0C4 Canada +1 403 229 0234 http://www.traderstoo.com |
This store specializes in architectural ornamentation and all of its antiques can be incorporated into the designs of today's buildings. From Roman and Greek-style carved stone pillars to solid oaken doors and chests from early Canadian pioneer days, the pieces convey a clear picture of design history. Renovators, builders, and collectors can find charming old versions of doors, mantels, lighting fixtures, and iron work. Although the antiques are clean and well presented, most bear the unmistakable chips and dents of their past owners, and carry the unmistakable weight of years past. Review © 2007, Wcities |
