A child friendly experience |
5111 Northland Drive Northwest Calgary, AB T2L 2J8 Canada +1 403 247 4143 |
This is a great, child-friendly store that teaches as it astounds, which is the best way to learn. There are, of course, the ubiquitous Beanie Babies (with quite a large selection by the way) as well as numerous colorful mobiles for hanging on the ceiling, or over a crib. There are also bird feeders, wind chimes and specialty cards. But the real treasures involve their huge selection of excellent educational games. Too numerous to mention, most are child-friendly and geared to bringing out the best in children, using different stimuli. There are also many interesting books geared to toddlers and under fives. For those with teenagers there are also interesting puzzles, toys and CD's. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upscale haute couture at great prices |
315 - 8 Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB T2P 4J7 Canada +1 403 770 7145 |
This upscale, fashionable mall is in the heart of downtown Calgary and caters to the urban shopper. Some of the more eclectic shops include The Brass Monocle, Oxygen Clothing and a Wine Gallery that boasts hundreds of different types of wines. For the less spirited, there are the more customary stores such as Henry Singer Men's Wear, CrabTree and Evelyn. Of course if you're in the mood to take in a movie, do not forget about the cinemas on the fourth floor or the beautiful Sunterra Market on the second floor. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The last great department store |
200 8th Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB T2P 1B5 Canada +1 403 262 0345 http://www.hbc.com/storelocato... |
The centuries-old Hudson Bay Company's local flagship presides over downtown's Stephen Avenue Mall. Its white terra-cotta building boasts five floors of merchandise. The goods run the spectrum from inexpensive house brands to designer duds, often set up in well-defined areas. In other words, Tommy Hilfiger has his space while Mr. Lauren is down and over a bit on the men's wear floor. The basement encompasses the Market Square area, with fresh deli and bakery goods and endless floor space devoted to kitchen, bathroom and bedroom goods. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For a great cause |
301 8 Ave Southwest Bankers Hall Calgary, AB T2P 4K1 Canada +1 403 234 7971 |
Blu's specializes in upscale, tailored suits for today's businesswoman. The suits are not cheap (a Donna Karan jacket costs around CAD1,200), but they are made with the utmost care and will last for many seasons. They offer brand names from all over the world including Armani, Anne Klein and their own Blu label, which is manufactured in Canada. One of the best things about this store is if you donate a suit to women in need, Blu's Women's Wear gives you seventy five dollars off your next purchase. Review © 2007, Wcities |

From the outside, this enormous shopping centre looks a bit like a giant spaceship. The Bay, Zellers and Sears are the major stops here, while The Gap, Eddie Bauer, Hallmark and The Sony Store are among some 150 other mall tenants. There are also dozens of services and a professional building at the heart of the mall. A massive new food court is the feature attraction of the reworked mall, which for years was in many ways two malls separated by an elevated parking garage. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Authentic military surplus store |
1005 11th St SE Inglewood Calgary, AB T2G 3E9 Canada +1 403 265 1754 |
This shop has been serving Calgarians for close to 50 years and is now a city landmark. Even the rich and powerful drop by: the last time singer/actor/diva Cher was in town she picked up a couple of military flight jackets. This is one of the most authentic military surplus stores in North America with a staff conversant in military memorabilia. Crown offers everything from waterproof matches to footwear and binoculars, and most items are very reasonably priced. Even if you don't buy anything, it makes for great browsing. Not your average mall |
202, 200 Barclay Parade Southwest Calgary, AB T2P 4R5 Canada +1 403 264 6450 http://www.eauclairemarket.com/ |
Located at the northern edge of downtown, the market is home to numerous restaurants and theatres. You'll also discover a unique selection of retailers not usually seen in suburban malls, including specialty stores dedicated to children's and women's clothing, imported art and handicrafts, and extraordinary gifts. High-end dining is an option at several cafes in the market proper, while several others, including the Hard Rock Cafe, Joey Tomato's Kitchen, and the tiny 1886 Cafe, are in the immediate vicinity. Other features include an IMAX theatre; Cinescape, a multi-screen first-run movie theatre and entertainment arcade. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Local Favorite |
3625 Shaganappi Trail Northwest Calgary, AB T3A 0E2 Canada +1 403 288 5466 http://www.marketmall.ca/home/... |
Chinook Centre and the Market Mall are considered the two best malls in Calgary. The 175-odd retailers in the Market Mall are considered to be the best collection in the city. The well-arranged nature of the stores makes it spacious enough, even when it welcomes a large number of visitors. From lustrous jewelers 'Swarovski' to sports and sports-wear shop 'Sport Chek' and toy-store 'Toys R Us', Market Mall provides a reason for everyone to visit. While the scattered stores are bound to make everyone run to purchase their novelties, the food court is bound to bring one and all together. Top the day off with either popular favorites like Subway or local ones like 'Cookies by George'. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Along with the usual selection of accessories like gloves, bags and balls, Bob boasts a large selection of golf clubs for kids! There are dozens of selections of clubs for adults including a lady's section offering smaller handles with shorter clubs. Penny Lane Mall offers a well-rounded shopping experience. Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, it offers fashion, art and specialty shops, as well as a variety of dining choices. Be sure to visit the heritage building that was built at the turn of the century out of local sandstone. Some of the more inviting shops include The Classic Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts, La Chic Ladies Wear Company and Gios Classic Clothiers. To satisfy hunger pangs, you might opt for the famous Dante's CafĂ© and Wine Bar. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Calgary shopping institution. |
318 11th Avenue Southeast Calgary, AB T2G 0Y2 Canada +1 403 262 6994 / +1 800 909 6994 http://www.ribtor.com/ |
Remember that funny little corner store when you were growing up as a kid? The one that had everything? Well, Ribtor is its big brother. It's been part of the Calgary shopping landscape for close to fifty years and offers thousands of items at very reasonable prices. This is especially important if you have children and are looking to stay on a budget. The Army Surplus section is worth a visit just to check out some of the archaic and somewhat frightening military ware. Ribtor stocks everything from Coleman stoves to fishing poles; garden hoses to basketballs. In fact, if they don't have it, they promise to find it. Review © 2007, Wcities |
