1 St Mary's Passage Cambridge CB2 3PQ United Kingdom +44 1223 31 5641 |
If you're looking for the place to try a traditional English cream tea, then look no further than this quaint tearoom. It is situated right next to the Market Square and serves traditional teas, breakfasts, scones, cream buns and lunches. In the summer, you can sit outside and admire the central position of the tea shop opposite Great St Mary's Church, the Senate House and King's College. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A French cuisine mecca |
27-28 Bridge Street Cambridge CB2 1UJ United Kingdom +44 (0)1223 44 8620 http://www.brasseriechezgerard... |
Bold, in-your-face and modern—that's how you can describe Brasserie Chez Gérard! This all-out French eatery is different from the others on the block and that's what attracts the crowd. Stark blues, browns and purples adorn walls, which go in contrast with the beige upholstery. The food is as impressive and they serve dishes like steak-frites, confit de canard, filet de loup and escargots. The service is good and the ambiance, relaxed. Paris is finally in Cambridge! Smart Italian joint |
32 Bridge Street Cambridge CB2 1UJ United Kingdom +44 1223 31 4954 http://www.caffeuno.co.uk/ |
Located on the quayside, by the River Cam, Caffe Uno is an extremely pleasant spot. You will enjoy a taste of the continental atmosphere, whether you're out for dinner with a group of friends (it is particularly good for parties) or whether you fancy a quiet meal for two. You can even take advantage of the patio area outside the cafe, relax over a steaming cappuccino and watch the world rush by. Caffe Uno offers an extensive range of Italian cooking (pasta, pizza and risotto), just like mamma used to make. And you can choose between a meal in the cafe itself or you can take away some of the delicious pizza treats. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Spice up your life! |
45-47 Castle Street Cambridge CB3 0AH United Kingdom +44 1223 36 3666 |
The Cambridge Curry Center has been around since the 60s. The restaurant has two sections—the main room and a party room downstairs. The former provides a cosy atmosphere, while the latter is ideal for large parties. If you're a curry fan, you'll love it here. Meat-eaters and vegetarians are both well catered to and in addition to the usual fare, there's a myriad of sundries and a selection of English meals. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Eat in or take out! |
5 Castle Street Cambridge CB3 0AQ United Kingdom +44 1223 56 6510 |
Chopsticks can get somewhat cramped, so it's definitely not the place to head for if you mind prying eyes. Having said that, the restaurant does offer good food and service, and if you don't fancy having a sit-down meal then you can always opt for the takeaway option. Chopsticks provides good value for money Chinese food in a simple setting. Bringing your own drink also means that you can enjoy a full meal for a little over £5, which certainly isn't bad at all. The set menus are also a good investment, particularly if you are out with a group of friends and fancy trying a variety of tasty dishes. Review © 2007, Wcities |

More than a decent cuppa! |
4 King's Parade Cambridge CB2 1SJ United Kingdom +44 1223 36 5068 |
Come to this smallish cafe and bistro and you might just bump into a couple of earnest academics in the middle of great philosophical debates. Not surprisingly perhaps with King's College opposite it tends to attract a good art student crowd which adds to the lofty atmosphere of this cafe. That said though it really is a great place to come and you can eat a hot lunch in this central cafe. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Continental-style restaurant |
33 Bridge Street Cambridge CB2 1UW United Kingdom +44 1223 36 2054 |
This is a well regarded and quality central restaurant. You'll find it over towards Magdalene College and just before the bridge over the river. It is a delightful small restaurant and serves two-course lunches and three-course evening dinners. You will find the waiters are exceptionally helpful and the chef is always willing to adapt a dish to an individual's personal preferences or requirements. The pizzas and fish dishes come highly recommended! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Serious food that's no laughing matter |
The Blue Boar 17 Trinity Street Cambridge CB2 1TB United Kingdom +44 1223 30 5089 http://www.hahaonline.co.uk |
This is a trendy and stylish bar that is popular with upwardly mobile students and professionals. The quality of the establishment is reflected in the price of the meals and drinks on offer. Grilled or roasted fish and vegetable dishes are among the best to choose from and you can accompany the meal with a cocktail. Visit on a Monday when cocktails are two for the price of one, or on Sundays with Happy Hour all evening. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A good place to make friends |
8 St Edward's Passage Cambridge CB2 3PJ United Kingdom +44 1223 36 8753 |
This coffee house is deceptively small, despite being laid out on two floors. Huge mugs of coffee—Coffee, Coffee, Coffee and Marshmallows (three shots of espresso and marshmallows) is a favorite—can be sipped while inspecting the daily newspapers or the selection of magazines; a variety of snacks are also on the menu. Very popular with students, seating in the upstairs and colourful downstairs fills up very quickly. It is situated perfectly in the centre of the city just down an alley opposite King's College. The cafe is a great alternative to the larger chains in the city. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Teas while you read |
1 All Saints Passage Cambridge CB2 3LT United Kingdom +44 1223 31 9393 http://www.localsecrets.com/cb... |
Located in the heart of Cambridge, The Little Tea Room is close to the historic St John's College, an ideal setting for an English tea. This must be among the most relaxing places in Cambridge – you can really enjoy your tea in peace here. Indeed, for religious peace, you could do no better than to explore Amana Books, on the first floor which stocks all major translations of the Bible and other Christian literature. Traditional cream teas are served as well as a wide range of teatime favorites and an all-day breakfast. There's also an impressive lunch menu and a scrumptious range of home-made cakes. Tasty Indian treats |
9-13 Castle Street Cambridge CB3 0AH United Kingdom +44 1223 35 8399 |
The Maharajah is often considered the best of the three curry houses on Castle Street. The restaurant's decor is a cut above the rest and its food is delicious. All the usual suspects are here: tandoori, korma, balti, rogan josh, madras and vindaloo (all with vegetarian versions). For those of you who fancy a starter, or a side dish, there's plenty of choice too: bhaji, a myriad of naans, chapati, poppadums and much more to whet your appetite. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Upon entering this restaurant and historic wine cellar, you are instantly immersed in a medieval setting. Favorite lunchtime entrees include Smoked Chicken Salad and Brisket of Beef and mashed potatoes with Burgundy sauce. If you prefer a sandwich, then try the filled baguette selection, served with homemade fried potatoes and mixed leaf salad. Choosing what to order in the evening is even more difficult, where the range of excellent dishes increases. Curry house on the hill |
71 Castle Street Cambridge CB3 0AH United Kingdom +44 1223 31 2569 |
The Star of India completes the trio of curry houses on Castle Hill, the Cambridge Curry Centre and the Maharajah being the other two establishments in this neck of the woods. Inside, The Star of India isn't quite as up-market as the Maharajah, but you'll still be able to relax in the surroundings. The Star attracts a varied clientele, but is particularly popular with students. If the restaurant is not too busy then you'll be in for a pleasant night out, but if it is jam-packed then you may find that the service is occasionally hurried. The Star of India provides all styles of curry. Hot, cold, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available. Review © 2007, Wcities |
