United Kingdom

http://www.brasseriechezgerard...
Bold, in-your-face and modern—that's how you can describe Brasserie Chez Gérard! This all-out French eatery is different from the others on the block and that's what attracts the crowd. Stark blues, browns and purples adorn walls, which go in contrast with the beige upholstery. The food is as impressive and they serve dishes like steak-frites, confit de canard, filet de loup and escargots. The service is good and the ambiance, relaxed. Paris is finally in Cambridge!

There are two floors, though the upper floor tends to be more smoky and older male dominated. However downstairs you can also sit outside when the weather is good, and if you're not in the mood for a sweet cake, then try the savory muffins available such as the pesto or basil pizza varieties.

Chopsticks

Eat in or take out!
5 Castle Street
Cambridge CB3 0AQ
United Kingdom

Chopsticks can get somewhat cramped, so it's definitely not the place to head for if you mind prying eyes. Having said that, the restaurant does offer good food and service, and if you don't fancy having a sit-down meal then you can always opt for the takeaway option. Chopsticks provides good value for money Chinese food in a simple setting. Bringing your own drink also means that you can enjoy a full meal for a little over £5, which certainly isn't bad at all. The set menus are also a good investment, particularly if you are out with a group of friends and fancy trying a variety of tasty dishes.

As you can guess from the name the interior is suitably decorated with pictures of every type of clown imaginable. Emphasis is placed on speed here and self-service is the order of the day. Three miles south of Cambridge city centre, in Grantchester Village, is the famous Orchard Tea Garden. When the weather is dry, where better to sit than in the low-slung deck chairs on the grass, shaded by apple trees? Wasps aside, nothing interrupts the laziness of the place. The Pavilion has indoor seating with photographs on the wall evoking the spirit of the past. Morning coffees, afternoon teas and lunches are all served here. Sandwiches and cakes on the service counter prove difficult to resist.

Pizza Express

The classiest pizza place in town
7a Jesus Lane
Cambridge CB5 8BA
United Kingdom
+44 1223 32 4033
http://www.pizzaexpress.co.uk/
You'll think you've died and gone to pizza heaven here. This is a grown-up pizza parlor (with a grand entrance, piano and marble floors) and is apparently the largest Pizza Express in the country! The ambiance is ultra relaxed with live jazz and pianists on many nights. The only problem is that you can't book in advance and it does get busy because, let's face it, it is so good. The food is great too. Try the absolutely heavenly Cajun (prawns, red peppers, onions, pepper sauce, mozzarella and tomato) or the Caprina (sun-dried tomato, goat cheese and tomato).

You can find this restaurant in a most unassuming place - it is right on the street corner of a busy junction on Chesterton Road. Indeed the restaurant is small, but the ambience is wonderful - candlelit tables are arranged exquisitely and every detail is covered from the bread to the napkins. You can order from the fixed price menu which changes on a regular basis.

You'll get freshly baked ciabatta sandwiches here made with real imported Italian flour. Star of India

Curry house on the hill
71 Castle Street
Cambridge CB3 0AH
United Kingdom
+44 1223 31 2569
The Star of India completes the trio of curry houses on Castle Hill, the Cambridge Curry Centre and the Maharajah being the other two establishments in this neck of the woods. Inside, The Star of India isn't quite as up-market as the Maharajah, but you'll still be able to relax in the surroundings. The Star attracts a varied clientele, but is particularly popular with students. If the restaurant is not too busy then you'll be in for a pleasant night out, but if it is jam-packed then you may find that the service is occasionally hurried. The Star of India provides all styles of curry. Hot, cold, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available.

Established in 1995, the Tandoori Palace is run by the Miah family who also own the Taste of Bangladesh on Newmarket Road, and the Kohinoor on Mill Road. House specials are well recommended and include the Palace special, which is a particularly tasty assortment of tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, lamb tikka and chicken kebab all cooked in onions, green peppers, garlic, ginger, a thick sauce and served with special rice. Starters range from dhal soup and tomato to king prawn butterfly. Beers, wines and spirits, as well as soft drinks are all available to help wash down your meal. And the atmosphere is suitably relaxed, too, allowing you to make the most of your meal in the pleasant surroundings.

Ying-Wah Chinese Restaurant

Eastern food

This is a small informal Oriental restaurant, which has a wide range of delicious dishes available on its menu and you'll find all of them at great low prices. And just in case you thought all that stir-frying was unhealthy, relax as the restaurant uses fresh ingredients and keeps to a bare minimum all added ingredients such as sugar or salt. The chef is always very happy to cater for particular dietary requirements.

Yippee Noodle Bar

Hoorah for noodles!
7-9 King Street
Cambridge CB1 1LH
United Kingdom
+44 1223 51 8111
If you like your bars and restaurants shiny and minimalist then this is the place for you! As you enter and sit on a wooden bench, pick up the menu and select from the fresh tasting dishes on offer. The service does not quite live up to these expectations, though you'll hardly notice if you're going for a carefree easy time and to savour some really spicy, tasty food.

Previously known as the "Venue on the Roof", the new arts restaurant is located on the top floor of the Cambridge Arts Theatre. The food is contemporary and modern, as is the place. The eatery is a great place to lounge in with friends before or after catching a show at the theatre. The decor is stylish and chic, yet subtle. The service is speedy and efficient and the live music makes you tap your feet. With wickedly delicious food and a great ambiance its no wonder most people like to spend their evenings here—join them!
