Catwalk adventures behind the falls |
Exit 141 off I-25 Niagara Falls, NY 14303 +1 716 278 1730 |
Short of going over the falls in a barrel, there are fewer places closer to the action than this series of walkways beneath Bridal Veil Falls. Located on Goat Island, this was once a cave but water erosion has made it too dangerous to explore. An elevator takes visitors to the base of the American Falls where wooden stairs and pathways bring them within 25 feet of the falls. You're advised to wear the raincoat and foot coverings as splashings are frequent. There is also a walk called the Gorge Trip with an incredible view. Review © 2007, Wcities |

It all began 12,000 years ago when a huge trench was carved to create this spectacular natural wonder. At the time, the Falls were about 7 miles down river in the Lewiston-Queenston area. In their present position, the Horseshoe Falls (170 feet high and 2,500 feet wide) on the Canadian side and the American Bridal Veil Falls (180 feet tall and 1,100 feet wide) are eroding at the rate of about 6 feet each year. A monumental battle site |
Niagara Parkway at Route 81 Queenston, ON L2E 6T2 +1 877 642 7275 http://www.niagaraparks.com/ npinfo@niagaraparks.com |
Scene of one of the fiercest battles in the War of 1812, this park located at the northern end of Niagara Falls along the river also marks the start of the Bruce Trail. The park features two significant monuments: one to Major-General Isaac Brock for his victory here; the other to Laura Secord, who warned the British that the Americans were about to attack. Fine dining in the park is available at the Queenston Heights Restaurant, featuring a spectacular view of the Niagara River. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Unique view of the Falls |
454 Main St (at Rainbow Blvd) Niagara Falls, NY 14301 +1 716 284 2800 |
With daily flights leaving from the Niagara Falls downtown heliport—close to the Rainbow Bridge and Howard Johnson at the Falls—this company offers an unusual and spectacular way of viewing not only the Falls, but the entire region. Using quiet engine helicopters, passengers are taken on a "limousine trip in the sky" that leaves other tour options grounded. You can also arrange night and longer private flights by appointment. Built between 1827 and 1832 without the aid of power machinery, the Canal is one of Ottawa's oldest landmarks; it runs from the Ottawa River near Parliament Hill to Hog's Back Falls on the south end of the city. During the summer a wide range of vessels, including tour boats, glide along the waterway, while people in-line skate, jog or stroll on the canal's picturesque banks. During the winter, the canal is transformed into the "World's Longest Skating Rink," and is a hub of activity during Ottawa's Winterlude festival. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Scenic waterfall |
Sussex Drive Ottawa, ON K1A 0A1 |
Located across from Ottawa City Hall on Sussex Drive, these pretty falls mark the end of the Rideau River's journey from the St. Lawerence River. Although not as spectacular as Hog's Back Falls, the Rideau Falls are still picturesque in their own right, especially when they are shimmering lit up at night. The falls are located in Rideau Falls Park, within walking distance of 24 Sussex Drive and Rideau Hall. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Large and laid-back location |
4707 North West Marine Drive Vancouver, BC V6T 1A1 +1 604 257 8400 (Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation) http://www.city.vancouver.bc.c... |
Possibly the city's least crowded beach, this is a great place to go to appreciate the sea's wonder in peace and quiet. This is a long stretch of clean, sandy and swimmable waterfront in Point Grey. It is family-friendly and home to summertime events like a sandcastle competition in late July, beach soccer competition mid August and the Jewish Worldbeat Festival in late August. There are concession stands, change rooms, showers and grassy areas. Skimmers alert: this is the perfect place for skim boarding once you learn the optimal tidal conditions. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Sandy downtown beach |
Off of Burrard Street and Beach Avenue Vancouver, BC V6E 1X9 +1 604 738 8535 |
This downtown beach is quiet and sandy. Situated in the West End near the Burrard Street Bridge, Vancouver International Hostel and Vancouver Aquatic Centre, it is a convenient lunchtime escape. Watch the flying kites and green grasses of Vanier Park across the inlet and savor the serenity of the location. The beach has lifeguards on duty in the warm months. Public washrooms and concession stands are nearby. Biking, walking and rollerblading paths wind above the beach area, leading to Stanley Park in one direction and Yaletown in the other. Walking amid whitewater |

Located at the narrowest point of the Niagara River, a few kilometres north of the Falls, this adventure offers visitors a spectacular view of some of the wildest whitewater anywhere. You can walk along a boardwalk a few feet away from the swirling waters. You can even see the remains of the Great Gorge Scenic Railway, once used to ferry people around the Gorge and now being slowly destroyed by the waters. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located near the University of British Columbia, it even has its own society that organizes events like sandcastle building, an art show, bacci ball, kite-flying and sand croquet - all sans apparel.
