Canberra Australia |
Originally large shopping malls for the residential regions, these districts have, in recent years, built a reputation for their nightlife. Cafes, bars and restaurants are settling in beside popular live music venues, so local residents no longer have to venture into the city for their entertainment. The centre of each district offers a different type of live entertainment and choice of restaurants. Belconnen plays host to Turkish and Indian restaurants, as well as taverns with Australian bands. This wonderful lake is the brainchild of Walter Burley Griffin, the architect of Canberra City. There are picnic areas at Yarramundi Reach, Weston and Commonwealth Park as well as Black Mountain Peninsula. Lennox Gardens and the Canberra Yacht Club can be found at Lotus Bay. Food as art |
17 Franklin Street (Manuka) Canberra, ACT 2603 Australia +61 2 6295 8866 |
Formerly a nightclub called La Grange, Minque re-opened as a restaurant and bar in fashionable Manuka. Minque is divided into three areas - a bar, a lounge with couches and easy chairs, and a dining area. The decor is grand and modern, in shades of grey with lavish use of metal and timber. The modern Australian cuisine can feature kangaroo fillets, char-grilled beef and vegetarian meals. The presentation is superb; the meals are works of art. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Patrons visit this bar for a chat and a few laughs over drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and occasionally there is live music, including traditional Irish folk music. This is a simple and unpretentious pub, always filled to the brim with loyal patrons. The walls are adorned with paintings by local artists and seating is provided by recycled church pews. The choice of beer here is quite extensive, and with a regular range of spirits and a small selection of cocktails. The Guinness on-tap is almost as good as in Ireland! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Canberra Australia |
Woden is becoming the jazz and blues hub, while Tuggeranong welcomes the Irish pub scene. These areas are very close to many of the city's outdoor attractions: Ginninderra Falls is a short drive from Belconnen, while Mt Stromlo Observatory and the Cotter Reserve are only 15 minutes drive from Woden, which was the first of the satellite cities constructed according to Walter Burley Griffin's original plan for the town. There is a large shopping centre and the Lovett Tower, which is the tallest building in Canberra, is located in the area as well. Review © 2007, Wcities |
