Floriade celebrates spring in a big way in Canberra. Over one million bulbs and annuals are planted in Commonwealth Park to bloom from mid-September to mid-October. You will marvel at the sights and scents of the magnificent display of flowers such as tulips, daffodils and violas. As well as appealing to garden-lover's, it is a photographer's delight, with a colourful tapestry of flowers sweeping across the lawns beside Lake Burley Griffin. Every Easter the National Folk Festival offers plenty of entertainment and active involvement with music, song, dance and food. Over 1,000 performers come from all parts of Australia and overseas. This festival celebrates Canberra's cultural diversity with theatre, performances by local and overseas artists, gourmet food and displays. The spectacular Balloon Fiesta is a unique event with balloons from all over the world and Australia. Watch them take flight each morning at sunrise to float over the city. The festival begins with a parade featuring floats, ethnic dancers, bands and community groups. The parade finishes with a food and dance spectacular in Civic Square with food, songs, music and dance. Admission is free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Royal Canberra Show is essentially a show of livestock and an insight into rural life. It features horse showjumping, exhibits such as bottled fruit, the best rose and the biggest pumpkin, as well as a fantastic Grand Parade. There is an animal nursery where you can see ducklings, lambs and more. See sheep shearing demonstrations and learn how to milk a cow. There are also rides and show bags for the children.
