Located on the South coast of France, the serene fishing town of Cannes is famous for much more than the Film Festival. Life does not always revolve around the beaches of Cannes. Beyond La Croisette, there is an interesting aspect of Cannes in and around Le Connet. The tourist office inland from Cannes, along the Boulevard Carnot, is the right place to check out the other tours and fun activities on offer. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Fortified Amphitheater |
Avenue du 11-novembre Cannes 06600 France +33 6 14 89 17 45 http://www.antibes-juanlespins... |
The Fort Carré is built on the tip of a peninsula in Antibes, on a plot of land that was the site of both pre-Christian and Christian worship. In 1550, in response to the destruction of Antibes twice by the troops of Charles V, Henri II ordered the construction of defensive fortifications on the site. The four pointed bastions surrounding the round central amphitheater were completed in 1565. The fort was bought by the municipality of Antibes Juan-les-Pins in 1997 and public tours are now conducted daily, except Sundays. Entry fee is 3 euros. Review © 2007, Wcities |
