The annual Pride Parade commemorates the Stonewall riots, and celebrates the beginning of the gay rights movement. Today, you are just as likely to see politicians, radio personalities and corporate sponsors march in the parade as you are to see drag queens, muscle boys and leather daddies. Many watching the parade seem oblivious to the political overtones of the event, though. For them, it is simply a chance to party, an opportunity to see the scene and be seen. A dance at the lakefront follows the parade. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Millennium Park's Scene-Stealing Bean |
222 North Columbus Drive (AT&T Plaza, Millennium Park) Chicago, IL 60601 +1 312 742 1168 http://www.millenniumpark.org/... |
This popular sculpture in Millennium Park has become a landmark of Chicago's cityscape. Ever since the public first glimpsed the then-unfinished structure in 2004, its unique appearance has drawn a great deal of both criticism and praise. Designed by British artist Anish Kapoor and forged from steel plates that have been polished to a mirror-like finish, Cloud Gate has been affectionately named "The Bean" by city residents because of its legume-like shape. At 66 feet long, 42 feet wide, and 33 feet high, this is one mighty bean, weighing in at 110 tons. The highly reflective surface and curved shape create an effect similar to that of a funhouse-mirror, distorting the shape of curious onlookers and making it a popular attraction for children of all ages. The sculpture often takes on a life of its own as its surface reflects Chicago's skyscrapers and the blue sky. Review © 2007, Wcities |

A traditional ballpark is what Miller Park is all about. The building is a sign of the local architecture. This arena is superbly built with its main attraction being the retractable roof especially during the rains and snow. The roof opens and shuts in about 10 minutes. This park has the capacity to seat 45,000 people approximately at various levels in the arena. It has a split-bowl concept where the seats hang over others slightly—this gives fans a clearer view of the game. They also have excellent amenities such as a brewpub, open-air patios, a Hall of Fame and a children's area. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Boys Town street party |
3346 North Halsted Street Halsted Street (from Belmont Avenue to Addison Street) Chicago, IL 60657 +1 773 883 0500 http://www.northalsted.com/ |
Like many other neighborhood festivals in Chicago, this fest, held the second weekend in August, gets its moxie not from the standard array of arts and crafts booths, but from those in attendance. Held in the center of the Boystown neighborhood, a commercial and residential center of Chicago's gay community, this street party draws from its surroundings. The event is probably as well-attended and enjoyed as the annual Gay Pride Parade. The crafts booths, three musical stages and food and beer booths help fest-goers party all day and into the night. Nation's largest neighborhood St. Patrick's Parade |

Though usually held the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day, one day after the downtown parade, many residents consider this the city's real parade. Stretching down Columbus and Balbo Drives uptil Buckingham Fountain, the procession is not as infiltrated by politicians and displays a more authentic ethnic, neighborhood pride. In fact, this parade began spontaneously in 1979 when a neighborhood group pushed a baby carriage adorned with the Irish flag down the street. From these inauspicious roots, it has grown to become the nation's largest neighborhood St. Pat's Parade. Review © 2007, Wcities |
