This antique store harkens back to a simpler era. Not only is the store filled with old tables, chairs, kitchenware and knickknacks, but it is staffed primarily by good natured women whose demeanors remind you of June Cleaver from the 1950s era "Leave it to Beaver" television show. When it comes time to make your purchase, you won't be greeted by a high-tech computer as cash register, but will find a register that is itself an antique. But even this is a "high tech" gadget, relative to the coin box the manager used for the first two years the store was open.

Although the building's glory has long since gone, the marvelous wrought-iron decoration on the front of Louis Sullivan's masterpiece is worth more than a cursory look. While the interior has faded into a status quo department store, the outside is elegance personified. Most of Sullivan's work remains intact, although Daniel Burnham and Co. and Holabird and Roche made later additions. These architectural firms were no slouches. Together, they created an enduring Chicago landmark.

Although billed as the mall for progressive people, make no mistake, this is standard shopping. Of course, this is still a fine, six-level shopping mall, but just do not expect surprises. The biggest attraction is the location; the mall is housed in a converted 1930s movie palace. If shopping doesn't tickle your fancy, and if you happen to have a Bally's Fitness membership, the building's top floor houses the health club. If you don't have a membership, try riding up and down in the painfully slow glass elevator for kicks. The building still houses a movie theater as well, Landmark's Century Centre Cinema. But, generally, this is a decent place for club shoe fashion. You could say it is well tread by the well-tread.
