Humorous sculpture by Claes Oldenburg |
600 West Madison St Chicago, IL 60661 +1 312 744 7487 |
The Harold Washington Social Security Administration Building Plaza seems an strange place for a one-hundred foot tall Cor-Ten steel baseball bat. But then again sculptor Claes Oldenburg probably intended for passersby to stumble upon this oddity in a most unexpected place. His other works include a 25-foot-tall lipstick on the Yale University campus and 45-foot-tall clothespin in Philadelphia. The weather bat has stood in this location since 1977.
