Eerie historical landmark |
1290 West 35th St West 35th St at the Chicago River Chicago, IL 60609 |
Not that long ago, Chicago was home to the world famous stockyards where an enormous number of cattle, pigs and other creatures were slaughtered. Today, the stockyards are gone, but its ghost lingers. This part of the river was used as a dumping ground for unused carcasses, diseased animals and the like. As the bodies, they sent up gasses, causing the river to bubble, thus the name "bubbly creek." To this day, the river still bubbles. Review © 2009, Wcities |
