Chicago, IL 60601

This popular sculpture in Millennium Park has become a landmark of Chicago's cityscape. Ever since the public first glimpsed the then-unfinished structure in 2004, its unique appearance has drawn a great deal of both criticism and praise. Designed by British artist Anish Kapoor and forged from steel plates that have been polished to a mirror-like finish, Cloud Gate has been affectionately named "The Bean" by city residents because of its legume-like shape. At 66 feet long, 42 feet wide, and 33 feet high, this is one mighty bean, weighing in at 110 tons. The highly reflective surface and curved shape create an effect similar to that of a funhouse-mirror, distorting the shape of curious onlookers and making it a popular attraction for children of all ages. The sculpture often takes on a life of its own as its surface reflects Chicago's skyscrapers and the blue sky.

The Chicago Blackhawks moved into the newly done United Center in time for the 1994-1995 season. The United Center features the ultimate in fan entertainment and comfort. Some of the new amenities include an eight sided video replay scoreboard, theatre-style seats, 46 permanent concession stands, a cocktail lounge, interactive concourse displays, and more. Fan convenience and accessibility are also key features at the United Center, a 960,000 square foot multi-use facility that accommodates 20,500 for hockey, 21,500 for basketball, and up to 23,500 for concerts and other entertainment. The United Center was also home to the 1996 Democratic National Convention.

Experience music like never before as the world's cultures converge to celebrate a common bond. Sample the gamut of contemporary, traditional and fusion styles as performers from Australia to Zimbabwe entertain at more than a dozen venues in September, with Grant Park as the central site. Tickets for each concert range from free to USD10. Several museums and teaching institutes conduct a wide variety of hands-on seminars and exhibits surrounding unusual instruments, music in history and cultural diversity in music.
