Runners of all ages and abilities converge on Grant Park each October to watch and participate in this world-class event. This is a Columbus Day tradition that's recognized as one of the fastest courses in the world (the world record was actually broken here in the 1990's), amateur enthusiasts as well as professionals can test their mettle over 26.2 miles. This is a classic choice for a first marathon, but if you are looking to preserve the legs there are other events to choose from, including a 5K and an International Fun Run. Check website for registration fees.
