Historic site of the 1893 Columbian Exhibit |
1130 Midway Plaisance North Near the University of Chicago Chicago, IL 60637 +1 312 747 7661 |
This 80-acre strip connected the Jackson and Washington Park exhibits during the Columbian World Exhibition of 1893. It was the first self-contained entertainment district in the city; it was so successful that to this day entertainment areas at fairs are known as "midways." Today, most buildings are used for education. The grounds are used for intramural sports, such as football, Ultimate Frisbee and softball. Points of interest include the DuSable Museum of African American History. Review © 2009, Wcities |
