Monument to the Great Northern Migration

By sculptor Alison Saar
2620 South King Dr
Chicago, IL 60616
This moving sculpture is located on the circular median on King Drive and 26th Place. Created by Alison Saar, and dedicated on September 10, 1996, the 15-foot tall bronze figure was erected to commemorate the thousands of African-Americans who came north after the Civil War. The male figure carries a briefcase in one hand and waves into the distance with the other, and is surrounded by 16 sculpture bollards.
