From the Familiar to the Divine |
1061, W. Madison Street (Madison and Aberdeen) Chicago, IL 60607 United States +1 312 433 0013 http://www.thebeerbistro.com |
With over 85 beers offered, the real beer drinker wouldn't care how the bar looked. Luckily, the owners did, creating a homey, pub-like feel with a vaulted ceiling and a mahogany back bar. The beer menu features everything imaginable, from the favorite standards like Guinness to the unusual like Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and everything in between. To go with the ales, stouts, and lagers, the bistro offers a solid American menu with suggested beer pairings. With advanced planning, you can even attend brew school classes or host a private party. -Eun Jung Decker Review © 2007, Wcities |

New look and feel |
1951 West Dickens Avenue Chicago, IL 60614 United States +1 773 489 6457 |
Originally a house, this one-time staple of college patrons across the city has refurbished for a decidedly 1980s feel. The change has not affected the midnight clientele, but the atmosphere is new. The upstairs area where you could sit with a pint of beer in somebody's living room and wander through the kitchen or out onto the balcony simply are not accessible anymore. But there are still plenty of side rooms where you can hide from the main body of the crowd. The place is infamous as a pick-up joint, but the Sergio feel of the bar speaks volumes about the costs of taking lovejoy too far. Drink prices are reasonable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Diverse music, great atmosphere |
2871 North Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL 60657 United States +1 773 549 5549 |
This is one of Chicago's most eclectic clubs, and, accordingly, it is also one of the most popular. Jazz, poetry readings, country and rock are all performed here, making a phone call a must if you plan on stopping by. It is also good to ask about the cover charge as it can vary night to night. Forget about the game room on the second floor and head to the basement, where all the action is. Admission is $5-$10. Review © 2007, Wcities |

What's brewing? |
128 W Main Street Chicago, IL 60118 United States +1 847 428 4500 http://www.emmettstavern.com/ |
Emmett's Tavern & Brewing Company brings back nostalgic memories of a time when taverns were the hub for all travelers. Gulp down the award winning beers that are brewed here. The menu is extensive; from Cedar Plank Whitefish to the Roasted Rack of Pork, you name it and they have it all. Participate in the events that take place occasionally; from Irish nights to beer tastings, it's fun! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Popular neighborhood hangout |
3740 North Clark Street Chicago, IL 60657 United States +1 773 549 2050 |
If you want to find a watering hole after a Cubs game, but don't want to deal with the usual sports bar crowd, head on over to this great neighborhood watering hole. Long a favorite with Wrigleyville residents, this bar has acquired a loyal following throughout the North Side. The beer selection is great, the atmosphere is congenial, the back room has pool tables, and the blues on the jukebox is tops. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Jaks Tap, a beer garden with award wining ribs and an easygoing atmosphere is the place most office goers head; to de-stress. A perfect venue for parties and events. Host to the beer tasting event 'Humulus Lupulus' twice a year, it is home to the largest number of beer handles in country. With a menu that has special barbeque's, quesadillas and even apple pie. You can compliment it with one of its specialty; frozen fruit Margaritas. Serving the finest of forty draft beers, it also has seasonal beers. It follows the motto; 'Customer is the king'. Rollicking Wrigleyville bar |
3655 North Sheffield Chicago, IL 60613 United States +1 773 281 5356 http://www.murphysbleachers.com |
As promised by its name, Murphy's Bleachers lies just across the street from venerable Wrigley Field. On game days, massive crowds jam into the open-air bar and spill out onto the sidewalk before and after the game. Cub fans, yuppies and tourists alike enjoy cold beer, hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. The roof can be rented out for groups to watch the game. At more sedate times (like October), visitors can examine the extensive collection of sports memorabilia that adorns the walls. For those wanting to take something home other than a hangover, Murphy's Bleachers has an extensive line of memorabilia like nice bulky sweatshirts adorned with the club's logo. Hand-Crafted Brews & Pizza, Too |
1927, West North Avenue (W North and Damen) Chicago, IL 60622 United States +1 773 772 4422 http://www.piecechicago.com |
Mac and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, pizza and beer: some things just go better together. Award-winning beers (brewed by a champion brew-master) feature at this open and friendly brewery and pizzeria. Pizzas on offer at Piece include your choice of toppings on either a red (red sauce and mozzarella), white (traditional New Haven-style pizza with olive oil, garlic, and mozzarella), or plain (red sauce, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil) pie. For those who've arrived at a pizza place with no desire for pizza (what?), there are also several sandwiches and salads to choose from. If somehow you end your meal not completed stuffed with pizza and beer, shell out the cash for some dessert—the chocolate pizza (with house-made chocolate hazelnut sauce and mascarpone cheese) is a culinary concoction not to be missed. Note: Kitchen closes several hours before restaurant. -Susan Berg Review © 2007, Wcities |

Where Fun Comes To Drink |
1212, East 59th Street Ida Noyes Hall Basement Chicago, IL 60637 United States +1 773 702 9737 http://studentactivities.uchic... |
Whoever said that University of Chicago students don't know how to enjoy themselves has never been to the Ida Noyes basement. Seven-dollar Miller Lite and Sapporo pitchers abound (along with 21 tap beers, over 100 bottled beers, and various wines), students gather round oak tables to unwind. More active bargoers enjoy pool and foosball tables, and the jukebox offers a good mix of classic rock and '80s music. For University of Chicago students, a small annual membership fee ($5) gets free entry. But hey, it's worth it: you could be throwin' a few back with the next Milton Friedman. -Ruthie Kott Review © 2007, Wcities |

Roscoe Village's favorite hangout |
2055 West Roscoe Street Chicago, IL 60618 United States +1 773 883 0817 |
Roscoe Village is a comfortable, working class neighborhood that has become more and more attractive of late because of its shady streets and reasonable rents. Village Tap is the favorite hangout of the locals - a place where the bartender might, in fact, know your name. With 31 kinds of beer on tap, good food in the kitchen, and lots of board games, plus a large beer garden, where else would you want to ruin your liver? Review © 2007, Wcities |
