Rustic Home-Style Italian |
5316, N. Clark St Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 506 9990 |
It's hard not to feel at home in Anteprima. This new rustic Italian restaurant in Andersonville is a laid back mid-priced option that offers simply delicious home-style dishes. Owner Marty Fosse frequents the location to make sure his customers feel more like family. The attractive decor perfectly compliments the regional Italian cuisine. The all Italian wine selection is ample, and they carry a number of interesting imported beers. Meal portions are satisfying. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Low-key gay bar |
5024 North Sheridan Road Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 728 5511 |
This gay tavern has a "neighborhood bar" feel that lacks the bells and whistles of the trendier Halsted Street gay bars. For many of the bar's clientele, that is a selling point, not a hindrance. Also popular are the 50-cent midnight shots on the weekends and free Sunday dinners. On weeknights, Big Chicks is popular with the after-work crowd, where regulars saddle-up to the bar and have a pleasant chat with the bartenders. The place is packed during the weekends, so it is easy to find entertainment in the crowds. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Booze on the run |
6562 North Sheridan Road Chicago, IL 60626-5312 United States +1 773 764 7900 |
If, at first glance, you find yourself put off by the ambiance of this neighborhood drinking establishment, hang in there, it gets better with time. The bartender and most of the clientele are moody, and the service, if not friendly, is at least prompt. The prices are reasonable, but there is no music and not much else in the way of distraction, so make sure you come with friends. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Tuscan and Californian cuisines |
633 North Saint Clair Wyndam Hotel Chicago, IL 60611 United States +1 312 274 4444 http://www.wyndham.com/ |
This upscale bar and diner at the Wyndam Hotel is a stone's throw from the busy Michigan Avenue. The muted lighting and swank interiors are ideal for soirees. The culinary creations of Chef Gresh please the palate, and the wines, including Cal-Ital wines, compliment the dishes. And the cheese cart is impossible to ignore. Valet parking is available for $10. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Come in for a drink |
4659 North Clark Street Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 334 2402 |
If you happen to drop by on a night of a cricket tournament, make sure to duck the darts on your way to the bar. The dart players may be in the throes of a liquor haze. On weekends, be sure to checkout the pub's house band, which plays an average of seven sets a night. The employees and clientele are distinctly Southern, and proud of it. So, if you happen to be visiting from below the Mason-Dixon, you will be welcome here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Simple yet elegant |
4343 North Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL 60618 United States +1 773 477 7144 |
Come to Chalkboard for some authentic American cuisine. Don't let the plain interiors and down-to-earth vibe fool you. In spite of being simple, the place has managed to gather quite a few faithful customers. The white décor and the generous portions assure you that you are up for a pleasant evening. Sunday brunch is a delight in itself. Make sure you browse through the wine list as well; they have quite a few options. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gay Sports Bar |
4804, N. Broadway Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 784 2739 |
Crew Bar + Grill is Uptown's sports themed gay bar, a neighborhood favorite that attracts the gay and straight crowd alike. During the day and early evening, sports commands the most attention in the bar. Yet, as the night goes on, the bar becomes a bit more musica, with the VJ playing an eclectic mix of music videos. While the bottled beer list is expansive with over 40 brews, the drink of choice at Crew Bar + Grill is the "Berengaria" -- a beer, tequila, and margarita mix. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Uptown Comfort |
4840 N. Broadway Street Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 506 3100 http://www.fatcatbar.com/ |
Fat Cat's is a neighborhood, after-work joint. Its art-deco bar, vertical lamps and wrap around booths create a quirky, retro atmosphere. The kitchen serves no-fuss comfort food: mac 'n' cheese, fries and burgers. Menu favorites include the Ruben Ball, a Ruben-like sandwich, rolled and deep fried. The bar offers 16 plus beers on tap. Curious about the beer? Simply ask for a sample. Large big screen televisions adorn the walls. This cozy, local favorite is full of character and vivacity - especially on weekends. Swinging former speakeasy |
4802 North Broadway Avenue Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 878 5552 http://www.greenmilljazz.com/ |
The best place for jazz in Chicago. Period. Run by the old Capone outfit, the Green Mill was a speakeasy during Prohibition and gained nationwide notoriety as the place where comedian Joe E. Lewis got his throat slashed. The interior is dark and old. It has not changed much since Al Capone frequented the establishment, and the jazz is just as hot as ever. Cover is free on Friday and Saturday nights after 1am. Come at that time to hear the thundering Sabertooth Jazz Quintet, or head in earlier to catch one of a number of other acts, from big band to sultry torch singing. The Mill also hosts the popular "Poetry Slam," where would-be bards read their poetry and brave the heckling of the audience. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Gay friendly joint |
5400 North Clark Street Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 784 6969 http://www.hamburgermaryschica... |
In true showgirl style, this flamboyant eatery offers ambiance, quick bites and drinks for those with alternate lifestyles. However, its popularity has extended to the heterosexual community as well. Bold colors, horizontally-hung posters, snug booths, and a stylish stilleto shoe on each table (to receive the bill!) make quite a rebellious statement. The TV projects RuPaul videos as patrons munch on sandwiches, chunky chicken starters, pizzas and burgers with names such as "Buffy (The Hamburger Slayer)". Desserts like Strawberry Shortcake and Brownie Sundae abound as well. If this is your kind of fun, the recommended drink would be the Bloody Mary, of course! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Dancing Queen or Funky Town? |
5336 North Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL 60625 United States +1 773 275 6711 |
Hidden Cove is not exactly hidden from the Chicago karaoke scene. Open until late, wannabe singers and revelers belt out one song after another. Find students, club hoppers, tipplers, and those out for a fun night. Additional entertainment comes in the form of dart boards, pool tables, TVs, and trivia competitions. So if you think you can sing like Tori Amos, show the world. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Belgian Beer Lovers Unite! |
5148, N Clark Street Chicago, IL 60640 United States +1 773 334 9851 http://www.hopleaf.com |
If you don't know your Farmhouse from your Trappist or your Abbey-style ales, or perhaps, more importantly, if you do, then Hopleaf should be your next destination for a goblet or two. In addition to an extensive list of Belgian beers available on tap (over 15) or by the bottle (over 100), this tavern also features beers from all over North America and Europe. If beer isn't your thing (gasp!) then check out the wine list; Hopleaf features a number of wines available by the glass or bottle. Of course, with all this drinking you'll probably want to do a little eating. A few standout features on the menu include the mussels (white-wine steamed or white-ale steamed, your choice) and the frites with aioli. -Susan Berg Review © 2007, Wcities |

Charming Italian |
5101 N Clark St Chicago, Illinois 60640 United States +1 7737699700 |
Though the location has been the home to a number of previous restaurants, the 'fiasco' this restaurant's name refers to is actually the Italian name for the familiar straw wrapping found on chianti bottles. While much of Il Fiasco's menu consists of traditional pasta dishes, there are also some interesting twists on offer as well; like the jalapeno gnocchi. The Neapolitan-style pizza is one of the more popular items on the menu. These 12-inch thin-crust pizzas feature a variety of toppings, ranging from a traditional margherita to the piccante with Italian salami, red onions, arugula, tomato, and mozzarella. If you've already eaten a full meal, but are still looking for a nice way to end your evening in the neighborhood, consider stopping by Il Fiasco for a drink and dessert. In addition to a number of wines (including chianti, of course) on the menu, the restaurant also has a full bar. -Susan Berg Review © 2007, Wcities |

Martinis with a Dash of Panache |
1500 W Balmoral Ave Chicago, Illinois 60640 United States +1 7735616425 |
The first thing you notice upon entering Marty's is how small the space is. No worries, though, as the martinis definitely make up for the squeeze. You can choose to either belly up to the (very big) bar which dominates the room, or claim stake to one of the small tables. When warmer weather permits, you also have the option of grabbing a table on the patio out front. Martinis of many colors and flavors are on the menu. Whether you emulate James Bond (shaken, not stirred) or are in the mood for something a little more frou frou (read: chocolate and delicious), you'll find the martini to fit your tastes on the menu. If you somehow don't find what you're looking for, be sure to ask the friendly bartender for a recommendation - they might just make a drink especially for you!. The drinks at Marty's don't come cheap, but given the generous pour (and potent mixes), one cocktail will often suffice. For those who arrive without a penchant for martinis, there are also a number of wines and beers on offer as well. -Susan Berg Review © 2007, Wcities |

Mouthwatering burgers |
5910 North Broadway St Chicago, IL 60660 United States +1 773 275 2696 |
Touted as the home of the city's best burger by three local newspapers, this out-of-the way burger joint and watering hole is worth the trip. Moody's has been serving up its half-pound burgers and skin-on French fries since 1959. The restaurant's decor is simple, with heavy, dark oak tables reminiscent of a German beer hall. But during the summer, the best seats are outdoors. The tree-covered patio, ivy-covered walls and gurgling water fountain will whisk your troubles away and take you to a world where the only thing that matters are good burgers and a pint of brew. Tequila Tavern!! |
5455 North Ravenswood Avenue Chicago, IL 60640-1148 United States +1 773 769 6667 http://www.ravenswoodpubchicag... |
The place to hangout with friends and family is the Ravenswood Pub. The tireless service of their staff sets it apart from others, with the decor that boasts of a huge fireplace and huge plasma screens. Entertaining is not a question with rotating video games, fights being organized or just watching a game on any one of the screens. The place to head for after work 'The Wall of Tequila' highlights the impressive list of liquor, beer, and local selections like Magaritaville, 1800, Blue Moon & Fat Tire pints and much more.
