The National Park Service awarded this structure the title of National Historic Landmark in the year 2001. This modernist structure was designed by German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and is now home to the College of Architecture, the Graham Resource Center, and the Illinois Institute of Technology's architecture library. The architect's universal theory is exemplified by the open space, which is also known as the "one room schoolhouse". Check out the steel facade and the column free space. And notice that the roof is suspended by steel plate girders. Review © 2009, Wcities |
