Also, this place charges reasonably for haircuts and shaves. Reservations are suggested to avoid waiting for your turn. Chicago, IL 60657

+1 773 929 8100
Although billed as the mall for progressive people, make no mistake, this is standard shopping. Of course, this is still a fine, six-level shopping mall, but just do not expect surprises. The biggest attraction is the location; the mall is housed in a converted 1930s movie palace. If shopping doesn't tickle your fancy, and if you happen to have a Bally's Fitness membership, the building's top floor houses the health club. If you don't have a membership, try riding up and down in the painfully slow glass elevator for kicks. The building still houses a movie theater as well, Landmark's Century Centre Cinema. Credit cards are accepted, types vary by establishment.

Over 25 separate antiques dealers are represented in this huge mall where you can find anything from a World War II bomber jacket to a vintage 1940s Disney cartoon. Expect to get lost as you wander through the many aisles. There are a number of antique shops in the area, but, for sheer comprehensiveness, this is the best. Salt and pepper shakers, eyeglasses, stereopticons and much more can be found here. Perhaps the best feature of the store is that wonderful antique smell. Some think it stale, but the rest of us smell much more: a feeling of history, of being tied to the real people who once treasured and loved the items now for sale.

Just Dance

Get the gear to shake your booty
3533 N Western Avenue
Chicago, IL 60618
United States
+1 773 477 9270
As the name indicates, Just Dance sells all types of dance related merchandise. Unless you have read this review or a few others floating around out there, though, you might not ever know the place existed - it simply refuses to advertise. With two other locations in the Chicago suburbs, it has everything you need to get ready for that limber performance or merely to learn a tango or waltz. The owner describes the clientle as "underground" but step right up - this is a friendly place.

This place was made for the savvy shopper. While it offers the standard array of second-hand compact discs, cassettes and vinyl, the real deal comes with a hefty trade-in allowance. While you can sell your used CDs for cold hard cash, your best bet is to make a trade, where the exchange value is upped by a third. When you need to refortify your music collection, bring your old CDs here, where you can choose from a hefty trade-in selection of domestic, imports and independent labels.

Selected Works Used Bookstore

Where the selections are in the work
3510 N Broadway Avenue
Chicago, IL 60657
United States
+1 773 975 0002
This is a bookstore with real personality. Owner Keith Peterson decorates the place with photos from his many globe-trotting expeditions. In homage to the store's large crime genre section, manager Charles Simmons calls himself the "Lord High Commissioner," a reference to a 1930s-era hit-man called the "Lord High Executioner" by the newspapers. But don't think the store focuses so much on personality that it forgets about the merchandise. While the selection is general interest, it has sections of fiction, humanities, philosophy, anthropology, and psychology sections. Cookbooks and sheet music are also featured. The store, in its new location on the Loop, offers wonderful views of the gardens of Grant Park.

1056 W Belmont Avenue
Chicago, IL 60657

This resale shop buys end-of-the-season and damaged or soiled items from the large department stores around town, cleans them, and passes the value onto the customer. This is more of a bargain shopper's palace than any Salvation Army-style resale shop. Everything is arranged on easily accessible racks and shelves throughout the spacious showroom floor. The difference can be found in the proliferation of brand names that you might find at Marshall Fields or Bloomingdale's. The shop handles every type of clothing, including mostly new men's, women's and children's clothes and shoes.
