Six Floors of Shopping
2828 North Clark Street
(at Diversey)
Chicago, IL 60657
United States
+1 773 929 8100
Although billed as the mall for progressive people, make no mistake, this is standard shopping. Of course, this is still a fine, six-level shopping mall, but just do not expect surprises. The biggest attraction is the location; the mall is housed in a converted 1930s movie palace. If shopping doesn't tickle your fancy, and if you happen to have a Bally's Fitness membership, the building's top floor houses the health club. If you don't have a membership, try riding up and down in the painfully slow glass elevator for kicks. The building still houses a movie theater as well, Landmark's Century Centre Cinema. Credit cards are accepted, types vary by establishment.

Over 25 separate antiques dealers are represented in this huge mall where you can find anything from a World War II bomber jacket to a vintage 1940s Disney cartoon. Expect to get lost as you wander through the many aisles. There are a number of antique shops in the area, but, for sheer comprehensiveness, this is the best. Salt and pepper shakers, eyeglasses, stereopticons and much more can be found here. Perhaps the best feature of the store is that wonderful antique smell. Some think it stale, but the rest of us smell much more: a feeling of history, of being tied to the real people who once treasured and loved the items now for sale.

Visit an accessory store that looks like a bar. Need a new leather bag? Then saddle up to the bar. Looking for some jewelry? You'll be ahead of the 8-ball if you scan the pool table. Looking for some refrigerator magnets? Perhaps you'll find some hits on the jukebox. While most of the "theme businesses" in town are crafted by corporate companies owner Sarah Jennings Burr brings a personal touch. Complementary lemonade or cappuccino and a Jack Russell terrier dog demonstrate Burr's personal touch.

Vintage collection
1746 West Division Street
Chicago, IL 60622-3212
United States
+1 773 645 1537
Owners Becker and Chunyk have decorated this vintage store with crimson-red paint and thick glass panels. Loads of skirts, 70's and 80's clothing, costume jewelry, and colorful dresses are on offer, along with a men's range. The antique furniture (also for sale) is interestingly archaic. Books, candles, paintings, handbags, jackets and a melange of other articles give the store an adorable yet littered look. Great place to find old stage costumes for a play.

Used record stores are a dime a dozen in this city, but this one stands out above the rest, making it worth a mention and worth a visit for those who are looking for music rarities. The store is really two stores in one. There is the typical used CD section, which is average and a 33" album collection, which is outstanding. Every style of music is covered here, and there is a lot of space devoted to classical and popular music of the 1950s and 1960s. Most of the records are priced to sell, but a few of the more collectible ones may cost a few bucks more.
