This shop is one of three bookstores that makes the trimvarnt of shops that are the Seminary Co-Op bookstores. If you are in the Hyde Park neighborhood, it is a must-see. The area literary set has come to depend on 57th Street Books for its wide selection of general titles, specialty books and children's liturature, as well as poetry readings and other events. Be careful, though, it is easy to miss the shop, located in the below-ground floor of a residential building. Review © 2007, Wcities |

When you enter Boyajian's, you see right away that although the store space is limited, the place really is a bazaar, complete with tables crammed and piled with things to examine and to ask about. To skim through this store would be a mistake because there is such a large variety of things from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Latin America and everywhere else in between. It would be a shame to miss anything. The only drawback to this shop of curiosities is that it does not accept credit cards. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The only antique store for miles |
5210 South Harper Ave #H Chicago, IL 60615 United States +1 773 684 8380 http://www.harpercourt.com/hyd... |
Although some of the antiques here are "scratch-and-dent," most are in great shape. In fact, the managers here are real sticklers for finding exquisite antiquarian collectibles, mostly from the Hyde Park area, and have had several years of experience refining their craft. Inside, you'll find armories, dining room and living room furniture, architectural pieces, and housewares. Jewelry, bedroom sets, vintage clothes, shoes, hats, and coats are also on display. The staff is friendly and helpful, especially when commenting on specific selections. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Jazzin' haircuts |
1602 E 53rd Street Chicago, IL 60615 United States |
Remember that old ditty that went, "shave and a haircut, two bits?" The barber-groomed shaves have fallen by the wayside in the modern saloons. But Tracy Dante Brown and his wife bring back the old-days in this barbershop. The shave is back, if not the twenty-five cent fee alluded to in the classic song. Instead expect to pay $20 for a cut, $25 for a cut and shave. Make sure to schedule your appointment on the fourth Friday of the month so you can take in some classic live jazz as you get your new do. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Huge convention center |
2301 South Lake Shore Drive Chicago, IL 60616 United States +1 312 791 7000 http://www.mccormickplace.com/ |
The casual tourist will not find much to see here except for the sprawling, massive complex that flashes past your car window as you speed along South Lake Shore Drive. The interior convention halls are vast and airy, home to an annual auto show, restaurant show, book convention and the like. Every year, the building grows bigger as it strives to be the top convention center in the world. The name comes from the same McCormick family that invented the reaper and went on to run the Chicago Tribune for many years. Review © 2007, Wcities |

To really get in the spirit for an exciting game at Comiskey Park, head out to this store in the ballpark to get geared up. You can pick up a signed team ball, glove, bat or jersey emblazoned with the Sox logo, or just a banner to stick atop the filing cabinet at work. This is an excellent way to show your support at the game, and serves as a great reminder afterwards. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Get in costume |
1942 W 47th Street Chicago, IL 60609 United States +1 773 254 4090 |
You can't get ostrich skin boots at Wal-Mart. Come to think of it, it rarely stocks boots made from alligator or Iguana hide either. This is exactly what makes Raudel Sanchez's store so popular, especially with Mexican bands trying to stay on the cutting edge of band wear. The store also features a wide selection of hats, jackets and denim. These fashions can be costly, so prices can top out at more than $5,000. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Possibly the best academic bookstore in the country |
5757 South University Avenue Chicago, IL 60637 United States +1 773 752 4381 http://www.semcoop.com/ |
For the academic out there, be sure not to miss this bookstore buried in the University of Chicago's Theological Seminary. The shelves are virtually stuffed with more than 100,000 titles covering almost any academic subject you can think of. Books on theology, philosophy, and literary criticism are their particular areas of specialty, but there are plenty of books on more general subjects as well. This is a truly amazing bookstore located in a particularly lovely and tranquil part of the city. Review © 2007, Wcities |
