Taller Mestizarte's name comes from the Spanish word "taller," meaning workshop, "mestizo," meaning the fusion of pre-Columbian and Spanish culture, and "arte," or art. It is an accurate name. Specializing in the work of Latino artists from the U.S. and abroad, the gallery features exhibits such as "The Skeleton of a Young Heart," installation work, paintings and prints by Hector Duarte. The gallery is a good place to discover struggling local artists. Artists who join the collective (for an annual fee) can use the studio space for their own projects. Review © 2009, Wcities |
