Small hotel on Belmont Avenue |
933 West Belmont Avenue Chicago, IL 60657 +1 773 404 3400 / +1 800 248 9108 http://www.cityinns.com citysuites@cityinns.com |
Guests at this 45-room hotel get the chance to partake in genuine Chicago neighborhood life, away from the Loop. Built in the 1920s, the small hotel once catered to vaudevillian performers and Mafia gangsters. Today, it is a charming European-style hotel with pleasant rooms, good service, and reasonable rates. Its gastronomical neighbor, Ann Sather's Swedish restaurant, is known to offer complimentary cinnamon rolls, even via room service, for breakfast. The hotel's proximity to the Belmont El stop is certainly an advantage. Furthermore, it is just three miles North of the McCormick Place Convention Center, a 15-minute taxi ride away. Familiar hotel in busy, Lincoln Park locale |
644 West Diversey Avenue Chicago, IL 60614 +1 773 525 7010 / +1 800 654 7871 http://www.lpndaysinn.com/ info@lpndaysinn.com |
Get out of the Loop and away from the throngs of North Michigan Avenue. Stay just steps away from beautiful Lincoln Park. In the past, the hotel was known for frequently hosting touring rock bands, but it now caters mainly to tourists and business travelers. This is a standard Days Inn chain hotel, although the accommodations easily top the roadside version and you simply cannot beat the reasonable rates. The only draw back is its location on Diversey Avenue, which can get somewhat noisy. Still, this hotel is a good value. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This 340-room hotel has the elegance of an upscale boutique hotel and the modesty of a roadside chain. It resides across from the John Hancock Center and is just a quick jaunt from Michigan Avenue and a 10-minute cab ride from McCormick Place Convention Center. Besides offering separate sitting rooms and the usual array of amenities, many of the suites have excellent lake and city views. The business traveler can opt for an Executive Suite and enjoy such luxuries as slippers and a bathrobe. Review © 2007, Wcities |
First class luxury hotel with an elegant lobby |
140 East Walton Street Chicago, IL 60611 +1 312 787 2200 / +1 800 553 7253 http://www.thedrakehotel.com |
Since 1920, this posh Chicago landmark has attracted the jet set and celebrity class with its regal 537 rooms, central location and unparalleled service. If the room rates put a scare to the pocketbook (although on weekends and in the off season you can get good deals), you can still enjoy wandering about the place checking out the beautiful marble and oak-paneled lobby. A large Romanesque fountain in the middle of this room reflects the Renaissance style conceived by Benjamin Marshall, who designed the hotel. It features similarly plush rooms. The executive level rooms and the suites feature excellent views of the city and Lake Michigan. Located in downtown, the Drake is a ten minute cab ride to the convention center. Nice hotel at a nice price |

It is not quite as fancy as its neighbor, the Chicago Hilton and Towers, but it provides fine accommodations for a substantially cheaper price. It is a choice hotel for those attending conventions at McCormick Center. The rooms are clean and recently renovated, and the location at the south end of the Loop is convenient for the tourist who wants to check out all the historical sights in the area. There is also a free shuttle service to the North Michigan Avenue Shopping district. Setting just 1.5 miles from the McCormick Place Convention Center, visitors can get there via a brisk walk, or take a 10-minute taxi drive. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Contemporary hotel with an elegant touch |

This hotel's elegance and hospitality have earned it a roster of internationally renowned guests, including Hillary Rodham Clinton, French president Jacques Chirac and Henry Kissinger. Period and contemporary touches abound, and the 692 guest rooms offer such extravagances as ribbon-tied hand towels. Overlooking Grant Park and Lake Michigan, this 45-story modern hotel also affords great views. Shopping, museums, theaters and sightseeing destinations are all nearby, and many are within walking distance. The McCormick Place Convention Center is about 12 minutes away by taxi. Sitting high atop the 900 North Michigan Avenue shopping mall, this ultra-luxury 344-room hotel has a vintage, dignified charm all its own, classic in every regard. From the wood-burning fireplace in the lobby to the Italian marble and handcrafted woodwork in the rooms, everything about this hotel assures its rank as one of the top accommodations in Chicago. There are a number of excellent restaurants and bars on the premises, and even a running track on the roof, which is only a portion of the hotel's large fitness facility. The hotel also houses a fully equipped Spa. This is also the most popular hotel with celebrities who visit the city. The business traveler will find that the hotel is just a 20-minute taxi ride from the McCormick Place Convention Center. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The term boutique hotel may conjure up images of quaint, country inns, but this 19-story, 483-room hotel is far from kitschy and rural. In fact, it is the epitome of urban luxury and style. The historic 1894 building is situated in the Theater District has Art Deco rooms that look straight out of a postmodern painting. The rooms are suited to business travelers, and feature such amenities as cherry wood desks and fax machines. The suites have Jacuzzi tubs. For a true night of something different opt for one of the theme suites: one is decorated with props from the set of the Broadway hit "Rent;" the other is based on Chicago's famous comedy troupe Second City. Charming hotel in the 1894 Reliance Building |
1 West Washington Chicago, IL 60602 +1 312 782 1111 / +1 877 294 9712 http://www.burnhamhotel.com |
Daniel Burnham designed this building, a harbinger to the modern day skyscraper, in 1894 with partners John Root and Charles Atwood. Burnham's oft-quoted slogan, "Make no small plans," most certainly applies to the hotel that now resides in the building and bears his name. What this small hotel lacks in size it more than makes up for in charm and grace. The terra-cotta facade positively gleams. Inside, the marble walls, mosaic tile floors and sculpted cast iron stairways are reminiscent of a more glamorous era. The guest rooms have an air of romance, with crushed velvet pillow shams and gauze-hung canopy beds. The hotel, with its 122 beautiful rooms, is perfect for both the business traveler looking for something different or for couples seeking a romantic getaway. If you're in Chicago on business you'll want to know that the Burnham is about a 12-minute taxi ride from the McCormick Place Convention Center. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Historic four-star hotel that's first class all the way |
505 North Michigan Avenue Chicago, IL 60611 +1 312 944 4100 http://www.chicago.intercontin... chicago@interconti.com |
This hotel was built in 1929 as the Medinah Athletic Club. Parts of its heritage remain, the most obvious example being the Roman-style swimming pool, which is open to the public. Johnny Weismuller, the Olympic swimmer who later became famous as Hollywood's version of Tarzan, trained at the original club. The landmark exterior adds additional charm and is a central skyscraper along the 'Magnificent Mile'. For truly royal treatment, opt for one of the suites. You just might mingle with the rich and famous. Run by the Inter-Continental Corporation, this first-rate establishment, with its 807 rooms (one of the largest in the Mid-West), will not disappoint, but be prepared to pay first-rate prices. For the business visitor to the Windy City, it's nice to know the Inter-Continental is about a 15-minute taxi trip to the McCormick Place Convention Center. Review © 2007, Wcities |

This charming hotel is close to the Loop, River North and the Magnificent Mile, and has a great view of the Chicago River. The French Art Deco style and lush furnishings provide elegance and warmth throughout. Special touches for the weary traveler are everywhere here, like goldfish at the front desk—visitors desiring companionship can bring a fishbowl back to their rooms. Whether you choose a suite or just a deluxe room you can expect intriguing comforts like window nooks that double as meditation areas, fancy writing desks and, just in case it rains, an umbrella. The suites also have jetted tubs. Review © 2007, Wcities |

For a hotel of this caliber, you may be surprised to find that a few nights here, in one of their 285 fine rooms, could be within your budget. Experience the daytime bustle of the city, and then come home to an intimate retreat in a real Chicago neighborhood. Built in 1926, this elegant, National Historic hotel has catered to Cary Grant, Richard Pryor, Shirley MacLaine and numerous other celebrities. In the 1950s, the hotel was the preferred Chicago hotel for singer and actor Frank Sinatra, and many a night, he would keep the staff of the hotel's Pump Room working until the wee hours of the night in order to entertain his friends properly. The Pump Room is still there, the hotel's lobby is still gorgeous, and the entire experience is still first rate. The original Palmer House was built just before the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and perished in flames during the conflagration. Shortly afterwards, Potter Palmer rebuilt his hotel more opulently than the first. Years later, during the mid-1920s, the Palmer House was once again rebuilt to what it is today. The hotel is right in the heart of the Chicago Loop and offers comfortable rooms at reasonable rates. Even if you are not staying here, the elegant hand-painted ceiling in the lobby is a must-see. For those looking to stay near the heart of Michigan Avenue, but away from the throngs of tourists, this 150-room hotel may be the perfect place. The lobby may not be what you would expect from a first class hotel, but the rooms more than make up for its lack of charm. Comfortable and plush best describe the accommodations, which are reasonably priced. Many of the suites include Jacuzzis. 701 North Michigan Avenue Corner of Michigan & Huron Chicago, IL 60611 +1 312 440 1500 http://www.theallertonhotel.com admin@theallertonhotel.com |
A multi-million dollar restoration has returned this elegant landmark to its former glory. Now, a stylish art deco tower standing above Michigan Avenue welcomes guests. Once decaying and unpopular with tourists, the hotel has become one of the best and most popular places to stay in the city. While other hotels offer comparable rooms at lower rates, the Allerton offers an historical perspective that the other Michigan Avenue hotels lack. The 443 rooms feature dark accents and decor that looks straight out of an actual bedroom instead of a factory close out sale. Many of the rooms have balconies that offer stunning city views. In downtown Chicago this fine hotel is close to just about everything and a mere ten minutes from the convention center. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Tremont Hotel, with 130 rooms, offers easy access to Michigan Avenue without the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Built in 1923, the hotel features a sitting room off the lobby with Currier and Ives wall hangings, a wooden ceiling, and an inviting fireplace. The guest rooms include two-poster beds surrounded by pale yellow walls and forest green carpets. Beautiful bed and breakfast |
2020 South Calumet Avenue Chicago, IL 60616 +1 312 945 2020 http://www.wheelermansion.com mail@wheelermansion.com |
This historic South Loop mansion was designed and built in 1870 by Otis L. Wheelock for Calvin Wheeler, the former president of the Chicago Board of Trade. The current owners, Scott and Debra Seger, struggled to refurbish the red brick Italianate building, but managed to transform the old building into an 11 room boutique hotel. Guests are treated with extravagances befitting royalty. Beds are filled with goose down, and the meals, prepared by British chef Denise Renalds, are served on bone China. The Segers imported all of the furniture from Europe. They restored every inch of the building's interior, including the Minton-Hollins tiles on the floors of the guest bathrooms. This is, pound for pound, one of the nicest places to stay in all of Chicago, making it a good idea to book reservations well in advance of your visit to the Windy City. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Of the three hotels run by Neighborhood Inns, this one is by far the preferred choice.
