Piko Cooperative runs as a low profit charitable organisation focusing on community issues and environmental protection. It is committed to wholefoods rather than supplements and sells primarily organic and guaranteed genetically unmodified foods. It is a great place to shop for price and health reasons. They sell whole grains and foods from open bins and regulars bring in their own containers to refill. Today, the slaughterhouse no longer exists but the butchery remains, with three generations of the Verkerk family providing traditional European style butchery.
