Alternative Copenhagen |
Prinsessegade Copenhagen Denmark +45 32 95 6507 http://www.christiania.org |
Founded in 1971, Christiania is an anarchic part of Denmark. It was set up as a direct result of the student uprisings of the 1960s. Today, Christiania is home to some 750 outsiders and is a free city, which means that it is not part of the city, the country, or the European Union. It is a lively place and there are always lots of activities happening. One of the original ideas was to have a 'no car town', but nowadays the inhabitants have trouble finding parking spaces outside the district because of the multitude of tourist buses. Visitors should be aware that the sale of drugs is legal here, and that dogs run around the streets freely. Guided tours can be arranged. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Young Danish Design |
Sturlasgade 14 Copenhagen 2300 Denmark +45 3296 5098 |
You will find Copenhagen Design Market on Islands Brygge, south of the centre. You won't notice the market from the street, but if you know the address and can get there on a Friday or a Saturday, don't miss it. You will have to pass a backyard and walk up some stairs before you enter the big, bright room where it all happens. At Copenhagen Design Market you will find clothes, jewellery and furniture, all made and sold by young Danish designers. You might be lucky and find some really good offers. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Kalvebodspladsvej 5 Copenhagen 1560 Denmark +45 33 36 64 00 http://www.fisketorvet.dk/ |
This is the first real shopping mall in the centre of Copenhagen. The name refers to the original use of the premises as the main Copenhagen fish market. The new shopping centre is an interesting experience. Not only will you get to choose from more than 100 good shops, fifteen tempting restaurants and a huge cinema complex, but you will also see a beautiful piece of Danish architecture. Built on the waterfront, on four floors, the centre has excellent views. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Scandinavia's Best Antiques' Dealer |
Strandlodsvej 11B Copenhagen 2300 Denmark +45 32 57 59 59 http://www.green-square.dk |
This place is well out of Copenhagen's inner city, but the trip to Amager might be worthwhile if you really want to shop big. Here, size definitely does matter as the building boasts a 70,000 sq. ft. shopping area with rare European antiques of almost any style and age. The price range is mid to high-end. The shop specialises in Chinese antiques, being best known for its Chinese furniture and wedding objects in red and black. As well as these oriental objects you will find a large selection of Danish antiques from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. You can pay in cash, cheques or with Dancard. Centre of all Train Traffic in Denmark |
Banegårdspladsen 4 Copenhagen 1577 Denmark +45 3314 0400 |
Hovedbanegården, the Grand Central Station, is the centre for all train traffic in Copenhagen as well as Denmark. From Central Station, you are able to travel to the forest as well as the beaches with the S-train. You will also find departures to most of the bigger cities of Europe, on ordinary trains. In 1911, the Central Station moved to its present location on Vesterbrogade, just across the road from Tivoli. The man behind this grand building was DSB's chief architect Henrik Wench. At the beginning of the 1990s, several fancy shops and cafés opened up in the arrival and departure hall, which lead to the creation of the shopping centre Hovedbanen. The ambience is very relaxed at Central Station, at any time of the day or year, with all kinds of people. Even the Royal Family have their own apartment at the Central Station, where they wait for their train to depart. There is a clock just inside the entrance; many people make arrangements to meet 'under the clock'. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Be Inspired by the Selection |
Vesterbrogade 6D Copenhagen 1620 Denmark +45 33 11 1107 http://www.inspiration.dk/ |
Inspiration is quite a trendy nationwide chain (with 43 stores in Denmark) that specialises in somewhat finer ironmongery and hardware. Everything can be found here from glasses to dinner sets, kitchen accessories to stuff for the bathroom, living room and bedroom. There are also rich sources of inspiration for those who are looking for nice presents for friends or family. The designer goods include many Danish products, but also foreign makes can be found on the shelves. You will not find many retail products in Inspiration. The prices on some of the designer goods are not for the needy; but the selection is enormous and you will quite surely be inspired after a look through the store. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Glamour Wear |
Vesterbrogade 41 E Copenhagen 1620 Denmark +45 33 25 00 18 |
Miss Morgan is a fashion shop on Vesterbrogade, the main street of Vesterbro (the part of Copenhagen northwest of Søerne). The shop is run by young people, and it mainly sells clothes for young people, too. The code word for the clothes here is 'glamour'. You can say without hesitation that Miss Morgan follows fashion. Furthermore, all of the clothes are from Paris. The shop sells everyday clothes, but their specialty is party wear in all its forms. And you really will feel like a million dollars in one of the dresses from Miss Morgan. The prices are a little above average but this a place to find favorites. The shop assistants are helpful and inventive. Review © 2007, Wcities |
