Do NOT Ask For Coffee |
Kronprinsensgade 5 Copenhagen 1114 Denmark +45 3315 3562 http://www.perchs-the.dk |
Surrounded by Copenhagen's thickest concentration of über-trendy designer fashion stores, this tea shop stands as if untouched by nearly 170 years of history. The interior has been kept largely unchanged since the shop's opening in 1834, and, indeed, the quality, wide selection and intimate atmosphere do not call for a change. This is where the finest kinds of teas in all of Denmark can be bought. A C Perch imports rare teas from the very best plantations around the world, and here the making of tea is a supreme art form. You can basically buy every kind of tea, including, in the last few years, the more modern fruit teas. The tea is weighed as in the old days, with lead weights on proper scales. Apart from the magnificent selection of teas, you can also buy teapots in all sizes, as well as cakes and marmalades to suit your afternoon teatime. The service is remarkably friendly; do not hesitate to ask what tea would be most appropriate for any specific occasion, and allow yourself to be educated on how exactly to make it so that it is just right. Just remember: do NOT ask for coffee! The story goes that you will be kindly asked to leave if you do... Review © 2007, Wcities |

A Pair is-just as the name indicates-a shop that sells pairs, of shoes. Situated in the heart of Copenhagen, A Pair is one of the hottest shoe shops here, partly due to the popular brands that it sells. There are for example a lot of Italian brands that are not to be found in any other part of town. If you visit this shop, check out the comfortable couches where you can sink in and try on the shoes. Store Kongensgade, the expensive shopping street by Kongens Nytorv, is home to a small shop with fine jewellery, A Dragsted, named after its 1854 founder. The shop is now run by the fifth generation of Dragsteds and specialises in pearls and jewels, found on rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets. The pearls are from various places: Japan, Australia, Tahiti and China. The precious stones they use include a large selection of rubies, emeralds, sapphires, lapis and opals. Every item in the shop is handmade by their qualified goldsmiths. The prices are high, but the quality of everything is exceptional. This shopping area in general is high-class. Designer Ann |
Nikolaj Plads 9 Copenhagen 1067 Denmark +45 33 14 81 81 |
Ann Wiberg is a Danish fashion designer who has lent her name to her own shops in Copenhagen. One of them is situated just by Nikolaj Udstillingsbygning. All of the clothes in the shop are designed by Ann herself and manufactured in a sewing factory in Paris. The shop gets new deliveries in from France at least every other month. There is a very broad selection of clothes, ranging from ordinary, everyday trousers to classy dresses for near-royal purposes. The prices are reasonable, considering the fine quality of the designs. Ann Wiberg uses her imagination and often brings new, extraordinary ideas to life in her clothes. In May and November the collections are displayed to the public at a fashion show. This shop has a twin branch on Larsbjørnsstræde, a street on the opposite side of Strøget. Here the fashion is, like the clientele, a bit younger and more extreme. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Arnold Busck is one of the most popular bookshops in Copenhagen. It is situated on Købmagergade, a side street to Strøget and one of the busiest shopping streets in Copenhagen. The University of Copenhagen is nearby, and originally the shop was meant for collegiate literature students. Now it has become 'public', with a special focus on books on art and architecture. The selection of fiction books is large too. Once a year this shop has a sale, and though it does get very crowded, it's a great place to pick up a bargain. Review © 2007, Wcities |

If you were born in the 70s, listened to My Bloody Valentine in the 90s and still read Melody Maker, then you probably already know Baden Baden-at least if you are from Denmark. Baden Baden is Copenhagen's favourite record shop and whether your record collection rocks to post-rock, Gothic-rock or whatever-rock, then press Play and enter. If you were born in the 80s, got your first sampler when you were 13 and know how to beat-juggle then you probably also know Baden Baden. Since 1993 they have had an electronic section specializing in Hip-Hop, Drum'n'Bass, Detroit, Minimal and everything DJish. Most of the records here are strictly vinyl wax and imported. Bruuns Bazaar is one of the most popular fashion brands in Denmark. The shop is located in the heart of Copenhagen, and above the shop is the studio where the designer, Susanne Levring, works. There is a branch for men's on the other side of the street. The special thing about Bruuns Bazaar is the quality of clothes, combined with new and alternative ideas. The style is kept simple but varies; similarly, it tends to stick to earthy colours. Sparkling Jewellery |
Niels Hemmingsens Gade 4 Copenhagen 1153 Denmark +45 33 93 73 77 |
Dyrberg/Kern is a very popular brand of jewellery among Danish women. The real name should be 'bijouterie' everything in the shop is costume jewellery with imitation stones. The quality is really high, though, everything is cast and plated with a thin layer of silver or gold. The reason for the popularity is that even though everybody is aware of the jewellery being fake, it looks a million dollars anyway. The women wearing it feel good, the more so because the prices are not very high. Mainly young people are attracted to this brand, but it really suits any person who wants to create a little glamour. The walls of the shop are naked and white, creating a splendid environment for viewing everything. The style of the jewellery varies, but generally it is romantic, almost princess-like, even going towards the extraordinary, almost grotesque! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Public Transport in Copenhagen Harbour |
Nordre Toldbod og Det Kongelige Bibliotek Copenhagen 1259 Denmark |
Havnebussen is an alternative to the yellow public buses, which often run late on the busy streets of Copenhagen. The harbour is not heavy with traffic, and because of that a route has been created that crosses down through Copenhagen Harbour, from shore to shore. Havnebussen is comfortable and the sights from it are often fantastic. It shouldn't be used as tourist transport at very busy times, though, as it functions as a means of transport for a lot of busy Copenhagen commuters. The end stations are Nordre Toldbod and the newly-built Royal Library, and on its way, the boat passes Holmen and Nyhavn. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Centre of all Train Traffic in Denmark |
Banegårdspladsen 4 Copenhagen 1577 Denmark +45 3314 0400 |
Hovedbanegården, the Grand Central Station, is the centre for all train traffic in Copenhagen as well as Denmark. From Central Station, you are able to travel to the forest as well as the beaches with the S-train. You will also find departures to most of the bigger cities of Europe, on ordinary trains. In 1911, the Central Station moved to its present location on Vesterbrogade, just across the road from Tivoli. The man behind this grand building was DSB's chief architect Henrik Wench. At the beginning of the 1990s, several fancy shops and cafés opened up in the arrival and departure hall, which lead to the creation of the shopping centre Hovedbanen. The ambience is very relaxed at Central Station, at any time of the day or year, with all kinds of people. Even the Royal Family have their own apartment at the Central Station, where they wait for their train to depart. There is a clock just inside the entrance; many people make arrangements to meet 'under the clock'. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Michael Strøm designs and produces all of the jewelery himself with help from his apprentice. His designs vary a lot, going from the simplest, minimalist shapes to glamorous and romantically decorated ones. Michael Strøm takes great interest in his customer's requirements. Most customers give him guidelines and then leave the rest to his imagination. A great deal of unique work comes out of this combination. Furthermore, Michael Strøm will gladly transform your old jewelery into new. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Casual Clothes, Close to Nature |
Købmagergade 5 Copenhagen 1150 Denmark +45 33 14 08 57 |
Noa Noa is a popular Danish brand, sold in this shop on Strøget. The style at Noa Noa is easily recognisable, with its loose-fitting dresses and blouses, coats, hats and corduroy trousers. Other specialities are eastern-inspired fabrics combined with the simplicity of the Nordic cuts of the clothes. 'Noa Noa' is synonymous with harmony, comfort and casualness; the materials are kept as natural as possible, and that closeness to nature is clearly what the shop wishes to express to customers. Both quality and prices are reasonable. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Designs That Create Trends |
Studiestræde 25 A Copenhagen 1455 Denmark +45 33 91 25 20 |
Sneaky Fox is an exclusive shop in the hottest part of Copenhagen. This shop has started trends, and the style is young and outré, with the elegant designs of famous designers like Jean Paul Gaultier. The owner of the shop wishes to bring back individualism to the customer, whatever the cost. A propos of prices, they are both well above average and very reasonable depending on how hot the specific item is. But if you wish to follow or create fashion, this is the place to go. Even the changing-rooms are nicely fitted. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stasia is one of the most popular designers in Copenhagen. This shop is located on Kompagnistræde, a pedestrian street parallel to Strøget, and has been around for many years. This is where many upper-class ladies buy their dresses when they are going to a big ball. You can buy the clothes you can see in the shop, or have them specially designed for you. If you choose the latter option you can easily end up paying in thousands. They also design wedding dresses, which are just as beautiful as the rest of the outfits. Review © 2007, Wcities |

English Books and Arts |
Skindergade 23 Copenhagen 1159 Denmark +45 3312 0669 http://www.booktrader.dk/ |
The Booktrader is the main English language bookshop in Copenhagen. It is located in the Latin District of the centre of Copenhagen. For a specialist bookshop it is rather big, perhaps because it has two specialities. Primarily, the shop sells books in English, mainly by English authors. The selection is wide and the ambience is somewhat British. The store also specializes in books on history of art and philosophy. In these fields, the languages vary from English to Danish and German. The sections in both specialities are good. Review © 2007, Wcities |
